Just Friends

Have you ever gotten the ‘just friends’ speech? Of course you have! Maybe it is just some unwritten law that everyone must get ‘the speech’ at some point in his or her lives. Ug. I regret to confess that regrettably I have had to use the ‘just friends’ speech a time or two myself. Personally I think that speech should be outlawed! When you are looking for someone to have an actual relationship with (which is the point I always seem to be at) it is the worst phrase you can hear. Truly! I would almost rather they say, “ I only have 3 months to live,” or “ I have discovered I am gay,” or “ I am moving to Switzerland.” Anything but the “ lets just be friends.” I have enough friends! Get away from me with your ‘ I have only friendly feelings for you crap.’ Hey! That is it! That is why I hate it when people use that line. Because it makes me think they are full of crap. Usually it doesn’t have anything to do with being friends. It has to do with the fact that they have just realized that they are not especially attracted to you, or they have found someone else!

Anyhow, so if anyone is thinking of giving the just friends speech I suggest that you use on of the aforementioned alternative phrases! Well….unless you STARTED out as friends and you have actually realized that you were much better off as friends. THAT is the only time that ‘the speech’ should be except able. Otherwise, please just tell me/them/whoever the truth and save them that retarded speech we have all heard way too many times.

Here is a poem I wrote recently (dumb or not I am putting it in here):

MIRROR

There is a mirror on the wall
Images change from day to day
Some are black
Some gray

Some are beautiful
But they are rare
Some roll by
Some stare

Put your finger in the mirror
Or shatter the glass
But the pictures stay
Or pass

Cannot change what’s there
Or what is coming
Is it slow?
Or running?

All that’s changeable
Is the image of today
Will it go
My way?

New favorite song of the moment: Hero, by Enrique Iglesias. (I want it played at my wedding)
