One thing I loved in this was the callback to the Mini, where Laura convinced Bill that it was time to run rather than stand and fight. I loved how that influenced his thought process here.

Also great was the moment where Bill admitted privately to himself that he agreed with Lee about the chances of a rescue succeeding. It was a very human moment, made all the more touching by the fact that it's Bill having it, because he always seems so closed off and strong in the face he presents to the world. To have him admit his helplessness like that for a moment, really gets to me.

And what an interesting choice to have Roslin taking out all her anger at New Caprica on him. I've never seen that kind of take on their relationship before, and it took me surprise in a great way.

Wow, the first scene between Adama and Athena really packed a punch, from the way he keeps envisioning all her silica pathways to the last line when she says she would have killed them all. Wow. So far, my favorite scene in this fic. Although the one with Dee is a very, very close second. *draws hearts all around Dee's speech*

You know, there's an interesting implication here, which I don't know if you intended or not, that part of Lee's resistance to rescuing the New Capricans was a subconscious inability to deal with the idea that Kara might be dead. I mean, I always got his intellectual argument against the rescue - that if we lose, humanity's done - but it's interesting to contemplate a more human calculation involved in his opinion.

And wow, I guess never having read the original, I wasn't expecting all the sudden changes - all the pregnancies. Hera was cute, although it made me sad to think of Sharon, all that time apart, thinking her child was dead, and then not even getting to have her in the end.

Interesting story! On to part 2
