I imagine him at a Canceron school board meeting, smiling his oily smile, "There will be burnt umber, or there will be… consequences."

Heh, very amusing, yet a deft portrayal of Zarek.

I enjoyed this very much.

"I imagine him at a Canceron school board meeting, smiling his oily smile, 'There will be burnt umber, or there will be… consequences.'"

Wow, if that isn't the best line ever, it's on the short list. I wish I'd written it.

Something like this scene should have been in the show anyway, especially before season 4, when the internal logic was falling apart (and taking the writing with it.)

It's great to see the story from the eyes of other characters, because there's something fascinating and sobering in seeing just how little the civilians, even in the Quorum, actually see. Zarek, of course, is more on the inside than the woman whose viewpoint we share here, but even he is left out of a lot of this, and it's much easier to see his point about Adama and Roslin and their leadership style after reading this.

We are missing the ocean indeed. I shall link to this from Hubris after all is revealed. Thank you.

Thanks so much whatever_lj April 19 2011, 01:22:29 UTC
Wyrdwritere -- I'm so glad you liked this remix.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading all your material -- I pretty much only read and write Roslin/Adama, so it was refreshing to read your big ensemble pieces. And it was a wonderful challenge to be able to remix one of them.

Thanks for this kind comment.

Very interesting! I really love these little slice-of-life in the Fleet stories. I like that you give so much texture to the fact that almost all the Quorum members have next to no experience in politics, and I really liked the image of the crab fighting with itself. I'm not familiar with the original fic, but it seems very appropriate for the tensions in the Fleet in general.

I liked the original story with all it's politics and positioning. This is a wonderful direction to take a remix. I can feel her frustration with Tom and his love of his own voice. The metaphors are perfectly placed and quite on target to the machinations in the original story.

Wow! What a fascinating little slice of life in the civilian government, their pompous and mundane squabbles as larger events transpire around them, largely without their input. I love your characterization of the narrator and other Quorum members and the little details, at once humorous and then very sad.
