I tried remixing a different story first, because I write Leoben far too often... but this one just wanted to be written, apparently! I remember that even when I read it the very first time, well before the remix challenge started, I 'knew' that Leoben was lying about being the same one who fought Adama/was captured and interrogated/imprisoned Kara. So this particular story has intrigued me for a while now. And remixing is great because writing Laura, on the other hand, is just so complicated. It's reassuring to have a sort of map on where to go with her.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to write.

(Shakespeare! I may have to use Shakespeare titles again in the future, because that made choosing a title a much easier process than it usually is.)

(I just assume that we only ever meet one Leoben. I might be wrong, but it's more fun.)
The logical side of my brain keeps insisting that there has to have been more than one, though the idea that the one Kara tortured is the same one who imprisoned her has a fearful symmetry. And I just like the idea that even though he's not the same one, he says he is. Because the Twos lies, it's part of what they are, and because it's part of my own view of them that they perceive themselves as being much the same for a really long time...

Also, I just really like to think that there are many copies doing cool stuff out there because that means more guys who look like Callum Keith Rennie hanging around.

I love the way you explore Leoben's mind in this at a crucial juncture.

Leoben is the most hated/victimized of the cylons (get your very own Leoben to kill right here! Yes, you Admiral, and you, Madame President, and we have a special sale for you, Kara Thrace!) yet he's the most far-seeing and forgiving. It's not Six who has the vision of what god wants for them, it's Leoben, and it's lovely to see that the human who most struggled with faith, its loss and recovery, is the one who helps Leoben recover his own.

After Flesh and Bone, I was waiting whether the connection between Laura and Leoben would ever be revisited and was very disappointed when the show didn't really explore that aspect. However, great fanfics such as your insightful story help to more than make up for this. Fabulous job!

Yeah, they had such a fascinating dynamic, especially for the brief time they were onscreen together, and it really is disappointing not to have more of that from the show itself.

Anyway, thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I love this -- Leoben really got shortchanged in season 4.5, and this story goes a long way toward fixing that. I especially like this part: "They're shifting like sand under the tide's edge, your sisters. Help and an ally weighed against mortality and a thousand other things that once didn't matter."

The water metaphor is very Two, yet this Two is so much more practical and down-to-earth than Leoben was at the beginning... and these two sentences capture it all. Great job!
