This is lovely. You did a wonderful job of filling this story in. I think the beginning and the end were my favorite parts, but here are some more highlights.

-Kara didn’t hold with artificial realities and she’d always preferred the reality of Galactica’s bulkheads to the pristine fiction of Cloud Nine’s horizons. New Caprica might be gritty, cold at night, difficult to farm and sometimes downright inhospitable, but it was real. Given some time to get used to it, Kara was sure it would become home. I also appreciated the contrast with the dissolution of her marriage in the next line, like Kara's choice had been an artificial reality.

-Kara thought maybe she wouldn’t have missed her own if she’d never known him to begin with. Maybe he should’ve skipped out on them earlier

-Safety was more important than sunlight, at least for now, and so Kara got used to the darkness.

-“Look Carrie, all those lights you can see? Each one of them is a sun. And one of those suns is just for you.”

Two bits:

He looked away for a moment then seemed to make a decision. “Frak, Kara, yes we. You think I stopped loving you just because you keep hurting me?”

and

When Kara taught her daughter to pray to the gods, Carrie chose Apollo for her idol. He’s always been the only sun she needed.

literally brought tears to my eyes.

And I loved the no fuss, no muss divorces - just done!

Thank you .. this was wonderful!

Oooh!

You know, I'm not much of one for babyfic generally, but the understated nature of this one (and the original), how Kara just gets on with it, how eventually they build themselves back into a family - it really is rather compelling, and sweet.

Ah, happy pilots, how I miss them...

Oh, this was so nice. I don't usually read Kara fic, but AU catches my attention :) I loved how so much of canon still worked out the same, but Kara was so changed (realistically) by motherhood.

This is a strange thing to comment on, but THANK YOU for this: “He’s hungry,” Galen explained. “I don’t have any... Starbuck, could you-? ”

I had a newborn or was pregnant when I watched that episode, and I REALLY thought of that when they took Cally away. All I could think when she was in the cell was "that poor girl must be SO engorged." I know it's a really strange thing to comment on, but it sort of bugged me in canon :)

Great stuff!

There's something about this story that gave me the same buzz and excitement I used to get when I first started reading fanfic. I loved reading it and you held my attention throughout. It had lots of angst without getting over dramatic and it had a resolution to the angst that was understated and effective and left me wanting more. Telling the story through short snippets really worked. I thought you did a great job.
