Oh my gosh, I LOVE this! I can't believe you took my silly little fic (and one that I must admit I was never really satisfied with the end result) and turned it into something so sweet and heart-rending and surprising and...I'm running out of superlatives. :)

I just love the characterizations. First off, Cottle is great. Felix and Louis are exactly the way I'd picture them: not always in agreement, but partners in the truest sense of the word. And I like Penny a lot, too--traumatized, but still a kid. The tension between the Agathons and Felix and Louis was so well done, too--that's a plot point I never would have thought of, how the Agathons would have treated Felix if he'd survived the mutiny, but you incorporate it into the plot so seamlessly.

Not only were the characters a joy, but the *plot* was so good. I literally gasped twice while reading this: first when Felix figured out Penny was projecting, and the second time when Penny projected Felix's dream-house. And then the ending, where you let Felix acknowledge all that they can't give Penny but then appreciate all they can give her without civilization--it's the balanced view of life on Earth that I craved from "Daybreak" and never quite found there.

I'm so glad that you liked this. I was worried that you'd be annoyed that I chose to remix your "silly" fic, as you put it, because I could of course see that it was intended to be cracky, and I didn't know what you'd make of me writing a story that was not traditionally what people would think of as a remix, but more a sequel. It felt a bit presumptuous to do that, and so I was a little worried about your reaction. But I was intrigued by the little mention of children and I really loved the way you portrayed Louis and Felix in your fic - so much in love with each other, but also entertained by each other too. You could tell that they each thought their partner was just about the coolest person in the world. I found that tone very infectious, and as you can see, that totally made it into my fic. Then, the idea came to me of making the child they adopt a hybrid and all that would mean for Felix. And then well, the muse just took off running.

Thanks for letting me play in your 'verse, and for leaving me such glowing feedback. I'm glad the result pleased you.
