The Colonial’s epic quest to find the 13th colony has turned to dust and hope was effectively ground into the dirt. The last episode was largely about giving up and with this episode, perhaps it’s about starting over.
Caprica and Tigh see an ultrasound of their baby - the first Cylon/Cylon child. Meanwhile, Chief barrels in with his son who’s sick. Doc Cottle, the most awesome physician in the fleet, spends all his time caring for all these cylons. Felix Gaeta is not amused.
Press conferences are held, politics are played. Zarek is against the alliance with the Cylons and with President Roslin not playing in the sandbox, he gets a turn to speak up about it. Others want to give the Cylons a place in the quorum. It’s a mess.
We find out that Nicholas isn’t Tyrol’s son (obvious plot device - nice way to write yourself out of that little corner *sarcasm*). Gaeta and Starbuck have a little chat about Cylons, it’s not so pleasant. Both of them fling hurtful and hateful barbs at each other. Starbuck sums it up by saying she’s not afraid to hit a cripple. Ouch.
Roslin has tossed out her medication and seems to have a new lease on life - running about Galactica. She doesn’t seem worried when Adama pressures her about political problems. Frankly, m’dear. I don’t give a damn. let’s go frak instead.
Baltar is tending his flock and Chief and Hotdog have a bit of a chat about their son. Yeah, that went well.
Zarek is stirring up trouble because that’s what Zarek is good at doing. He basically holds the fuel ship ransom. Athena arrests him without incident and goes and gets the fuel ship back. While in a holding cell, Zarek and Gaeta have a little chat about mutiny.
1) The fuel ship was obviously targeted because it provides a much needed commodity. Why did the fuel ship follow Zarek? Had they forgotten what Chief had done on their behalf, or does that even count anymore now that he’s a cylon?
2) Is Zarek right? Cylons have been the enemy for a long time, is it really a good idea to trust them or would a revolution now simply decimate humanity all together?
3) Tigh and Adama seem to have made up. Thankfully the bromance is intact. Agree? Disagree? Should Adama have forgiven him so readily?
4) I mentioned at the beginning of this post that perhaps this episode was about starting over. Even if we forge a new life for ourselves, we are still plagued by the baggage of what has come before. Are the survivors, human and cylon, ready to move on? Is that even the point?
5) Other thoughts?
