The whole Tyrol going psycho thing made sense to me, in that he was having a breakdown over how he basically screwed up and enabled Boomer to walk around the Galactica shooting people.

I get that he went psycho. But he never ever was an aggressive character before. It made sense later with Gaeta, when he stabbed Baltar, because there was a lot of bottled up aggression towards Baltar in the first place. But Cally had never done anything to Tyrol - he even jumped her before he knew who she was. And he's always been portrayed as a sweet, calm, self-confident guy. He didn't get angry with Crashdown in the episode where Crashdown died at all, he just got worried. I don't know. I need to see more of Tyrol losing it slowly before this. That, or I need him to have a different kind of psychotic break. Especially since he has more screentime than Gaeta so there has to be a better explanation in his case. We only ever saw Gaeta from the "outside", so to say, up to that point anyway, but we're used to identifying with Tyrol.

Taking a Break was the first Gaeta stabstab episode?

Yes. I find it to be an immensely tasteless episode. It mixes the Lee/Kara highschool drama with the Baltar torture, which is tasteless; it's like trying to do DS9 and Sex In The City at the same time. It ends with Roslin and Adama cuddling, which is also tasteless considering the two of them just tortured a guy. And in the middle of it all, there's Gaeta acting funny, but there's no explanation, there's no closure, and the Whisper of Doom didn't set anything up either. I don't know who'd call a torture episode "Taking a break from all your worries" either. Gah. It's a bad episode.

And agreed on Helo. They wasted so much potential with that character, constantly getting him into situations where the actor couldn't save anything at all. I'm actually surprised he scored a part on a show by Joss Whedon recently because he's never really gotten a chance to show off on BSG. But, maybe Whedon sees what we see.
