I am not a big Cally fan, so it's saying something that you got me so interested in her perspective with this. I love the mixture of all her doubts and all her certainties; for if there is one thing Cally is good at is appearing certain about something. It's fascinating to see what might be going on underneath that veneer of certainty.

I liked how you kept weaving in and out the themes of losing and gaining family, and the phrase "for better or for worse," which takes on such a different hue when you think of it applying to finding out your husband is one of the machine race responsible for the death of your entire family and everything you knew. Wow. I hope Season 4 does something this interesting with the implications of that.

So glad you enjoyed it. I really liked Cally in the first season, but by the third she was getting on my nerves a bit. I am sure she must be more layered than they currently make out. I love Tyrol though, and can just imagine him sinking in the depths of despair once he had time to process the news. I am really looking forward to season 4... I've just rewatched 'Eye of Jupiter' and am wondering how on Earth (or Kobol) I didn't work out that he was a cylon when he started getting called to the temple!

This is great! I couldn't think of a better response to my prompt. I keep thinking that the writers have done the best thing they possibly could for Cally's character; the two things she values most in the world are her husband and Nicky, and yet no one hates the cylons more than she does. That's got to be interesting! This is a very real but hopeful look at what that might be like for her. I hadn't really thought of how many times Cally has lost her family before this - not just during the attacks but going to New Caprica and then having to flee as well. I particularly loved the part where she's struggling to pick up her baby - I've pictured that scene myself - and then the very end.

Oh I feel for Cally here. Her little family is the center of everything for her so I can imagine how hard all of these realization are for her, both in this lovely fic and in the actual season to come.
