So I have a few spare minutes as I can't work out how to buy breakkie but that's ok :) I'll grab something on my wanderings later. It's a pity it's a Sunday as lots of stuff will be closed but I'll just do my favourite part of travelling; the aimless exploring of streets in interesting new cities.
I'm thinking about doing a tour of Tuscany or Chianti wine regions in the next few days but I also want to go to Pisa and maybe this town Greg and Sally recccomended and catch up with Sam.
It's so nice to think of actually having people to do things with, Nice was so great and half of that was just meeting and hanging out with Sam. The only similar thing I can think of is meeting Holly (
hollysamantha) where we just clicked :). Travelling by myself I really do love as I can just change my plans at the last minute and leave early or stay longer and you don't have to worry about working in with other people's plans and itinerary but sometimes it is really nice it have someone to talk to and share your day with. It'll be so cool when I'm with mum and dad and marta again. I also won't have to plan, not that really I've done much of that yet for Florence. That's my plan for today, go for a wander get a feel for the city then hang by the pool and plan the next few days. I'm not sleeping through the night again so I'm really tires which is bad :( I can't enjoy myself as much.
The south or France, Provence and the riviera, were so lovely. I did the whole pebble beach thing in Nice and this little town down the coast called Cap d'Ail and the towns on the river like Avignon and Arles were good too. I liked wandering around Avignon with it's surprising walled gardens and winding streets with little alleyways. Mum and Dad's reccomendation to see the Pont du Gard was so good, I just jumped on the bus and had no idea really what I was heading towards but the tiered aquiduct over the river was just stunning. It was a perfect day to be there, sunshine, warm weather just a hint of breeze pity I didn't know you could swim :( but still my picnic overlooking the pont was pretty perfect.
Arles was really good just to wander and to sit by the river. I caught this fantastic photography exhibit at the Musée Ratteu with all these striking photos. These were some whose subjects were just so life like or interesting and others where it was the presentation that made them - framed in keyhole cutouts or photos of the sky framed in windows. It was extra good for the unexpected nature, I just walked past and thought the entrance to the museum looked interesting and it said photography :)
Before Arles I was in this tiny little town called Carcassonne with a medieval walled town above the main town. It was so great! I stayed in a little guest house where the people were really welcoming and I had a room all to myself with free wireless. I even caught kasey online and we talked for an hour :) it was so great!! The medieval town was more touristy than I expected but still really nice. I spent several hours just walking the cobbled streets and climbing the outer walls for veiws of the town below and the surrounding countryside.
Better go I'm about talk to people back home!! xx
