Elena left yesterday, which is why I'm a little sad, but Im also excited that I get to see her again in a few months.
Schools over, really over now. All my exams are done as of tuesday and the only school related thing left is Prom - right before i leave. I can't believe its less than a month now!!
Had a really great weekend, it started on friday when i went on a school organized trip to 'La Ronde' an amusement park just outside Montreal. Ok when i say just i mean just over an hour by bus and metro :) but in reality its only just off the island. I met up with some of my friends, Elena (from school) and Monica at the metro by sheer coincidence which was nice we made the trip over together and then getting off the metro at the other end i caught up with Vanessa, Elina and Luciana and some of the guys. I spent the day hanging with the usual crowd and meant to try and catch Elena and Monica again but didn't get the chance. I took a page out of Marta's book for the day, and started with '
Goliath
' a massive adrenelin rush of a roller-coaster - technically my first big roller-coaster! It was crazy fun and a really good way to start the day!
All day the group of people I was with kept changing depending on what we were doing. I went on a couple more rides and only sat out on one roller-coaster, I would have gone except it was both upside down and bottomless - i could have dealt with one or the other. Several times through the day i was totally thinking 'I am channeling Marta' :P and i think she'd be pretty proud of my efforts! After 'Goliath' I went on the swings, then watched everyone spin around 20 meters in the air.
After this we headed to something a little more my style - a water ride :D it was fun and cooled us off in the hot weather, some of the more adventurous like Vanessa and Elina headed to Orbite which is like the Giant Drop or whatever it's called at the show. Then we grabbed something to eat and then headed to the 'Toboggan Nordique' which was all about corners, seriously! It was designed so that at each corner you tilted a little more that you expect. Sarah and Emilia then had to leave so we said goodbye and some of us queued for '
Le Monstre' or The Monster, a big old wooden roller-coaster. The queues everywhere were really long but two hours at 'Le Monstre' was tiring. Luckily the ride made up for it, it was fast and exciting but not too death defying and we had fun lining up.
When we were about to get on we looked across at the other line and saw the other half of us :) So we waited and when they got off we headed to the 'Vampire' which was the roller-coaster that i didn't go on :) i just had a nice rest on a bench in the sun! We then waited for a few people to meet up again, and in the mean time i got to see a groundhog - well two actually, the big one ran straight across in front of us.
It was surprising how much time we spent at the park, from 10:30am until 7:30 - 8:00ish, it was a really great day. I went on a couple of other rides too just fun ones like the Swings, Manitou (like the claw) and Discoronde. It was a really good day, afterwards the girls all went back to Vanessa's house - we didn't get there until 9:30! and i only stayed a couple of hours but it was fun we just chatted and hung out. Made me miss the girls back home a little though, there is really nothing like the friends you've had for years!
Then saturday was pretty quiet, had to do a major clean up of my room! it was scary looked like my suitcase, which was blocking the door, had exploded!! But i got it all tidied away and spent the rest of the day relaxing. On Sunday my only real plan was to go to to an exchange student picnic organised by Monica, Elena (from school) and my fellow Aussie Sinead. So i slept in a little then made a batch of brownies as no picnic is complete without Ellie's Brownies. Caught the metro downtown then climbed to meet the girls and their friends at Mont Royal. We had planned to meet at this angel statue where on summery Sundays the 'Tam Tams' are held. I got there to find it was full of people enjoying the good weather and the infectious beats of the 'Tam Tams' drummers. The atmosphere was so great, i had read about it but it was so. alive, i think is the best term. I kept thinking that Gunter and Elisa and Zoe and Alex would really enjoy it. There was a mini market as well set up at the edge of the square.
There was a bit of confusion and they were running late so i got to hang out at the Tam Tams for and hour or so. It was really good. Im going to try and get back there next weekend if i don't have any other plans. So back to the picnic ... in the mean time the plans had changed and the picnic got moved to Lac aux Castors or Beaver Lake which it turns out is on the other side of Mont Royal park. But i got there in the end and Monica was nice enough to meet me halfway between the statue and the lake. Turned into a really lovely afternoon. I met some interesting people from Ecuador and Germany and spent the afternoon cold, but enjoying the outdoors. there was a really lovely view where we were even if the atmosphere was as lively as at the Tam Tams. Then I headed home because i needed to study at least a little bit for maths.
Im taking it easy this week and will start planing and exploring Montreal next week as well as hopefully catching up with people. On saturday I'm going to a movie night with people from school so that should be really fun and right now i am going to grab my ipod and go for a walk, the weather isn't great but ill just wear my hoodie :)
