He sat at his monitor, but he didn’t watch it. He was watching her. Her hair in a ponytail, staring straight ahead. He knew she didn’t want him here. He could never replace Helo; he could never replace the chief; no matter how much he wanted to replace them both for her. So he sat and watched, storing each observation for later use. Maybe, one day, she’d be ready to let him in.
“Hey, Crashdown, what are you picking up off of that last scan?” Boomer’s voice drew him out of his thoughts and back to the tasks at hand.
