Just a little post
To say thank you once again for all of the people who sent me pms regarding the floods.
Yes, I am from Toowoomba originally and my mum still lives there. (Gee, I didn't realise so many of you knew! I'm the queen of tmi obviously! LOL) Toowoomba is on the top of a mountain and has no river flowing through it. So, I only joked with my mum a few days ago about how she could never be affected. But after 400mm (16 inches) of rain in 7 days, even small drains and creeks flood apparently and they were hit by a flash flood that has destroyed the inner city there.
I finally got onto her on Tuesday morning (the phone lines were dead all Monday night) and everyone's okay.
Tonight , Brisbane (the third largest ciy in Aus) and nearby Ipswich are being flooded. Unlike Toowoomba, they have had a couple of days to prepare, and hopefully everyone I know there will be safe.
We're still high and dry. The highway's still blocked, but a barge brought groceries into Cairns on Sunday night, so I was able to stock up.
All I can say is thankfully I never decided to go away during these school holidays.
