It all sounded too familiar...

Because I have a longer f/list than bugsfic , I'm just linking her recent public post here for you to read

There was a lot of talk on other posts about this girl, so I thought everyone might be interested in what happened.

I think we are relatively lucky that our little a/r corner is so small that this sort of thing doesn't happen very often and I am glad ( Read more... )

You know, I noticed that a long time ago when she was writing about an afterlife and using names and scenes from Louise Ellis' Shore Series - I called her on it and she just wrote something like "oh, yeah, I love her work, too". I didn't notice the plagiarism from other authors - honestly, I loved her stories!!! I always commented asking for more chapters - now I feel bad that I didn't notice the massive stealing (you know, I read all A/R fics posted on both SI and LJ).........
P.S. Unlike you, my dear, bugs doesn't allow anonymous posting on her LJ, or I would have commented about this there.

I don't? But you aren't anonymous; you signed it! LOL! You mean you're not a LJ user? My LJ tech ability is still on the lower end of the learning curve.

It seemed that she took bits of good stuff and cobbled it all together into her own fic which may not make it jump out to a reader. It's not your classic case of plagiarism, which is simply putting your name on someone else's story. But it's still stealing if you don't credit those ideas.

Who knows. She may return and use her own ideas completely. The wonders of anonymity on the Internet-- infinite second chances. I suggested in my PM that she come over to LJ and we'd be happy to help her learn the 'rules' and focus on her own writing but she made the drop out of sight choice.

Even if I stop signing my name (like these last few comments), you just know it's me :D I'm always lurking around :P

Okay, I *think* I fixed it. Lords knows, I don't want to block any troll from attacking me on my journal! Whoo-hoo!

I remembered exactly what she took from Cavgirl, but I can't remember anything similar to you or CQ - give me an example, please!

Charlotte had a very similar tattoo scene to CQ. She had her Bill as 'military adviser' just like I do in Imagine. (She also had a couple of other vague references that made me stop and think she'd read more of my stuff, but maybe nothing I could have accused her of if the evidence didn't keep piling up.) She took significant amounts from both Louise Ellis's Shore and Parallels fics. She had the same premise as katamaran's Through the Glass Lightly. And some similar scenes to Escapedvelocity's Chasing Twelve fic.

A lot of fics often have similar scenes etc. But I think the fact hers were a/u were the sticking point. A/Us are usually unique.

She doesn't have a lj account. This was one of the things that was very sus. There was no normal writer interaction.

She also never left reviews/comments on other fics.

I did notice your review calling her out on reading the Shore. It was one of our pieces of evidence. *snort*

PS, Why don't you just get a lj account!? It's free you know! LOL

Maybe I'll make a LJ of my own one day. Idk - maybe I will :)

And I must say that it's obvious that some ideas are going to overlap in a/u now and then. For example I've written a fic where Bill and Laura meet at a wedding, and lacklusterfic has as well. However, I don't for a minute think she copied the idea from me. (I'll tell her she has though, *snort*) It was the whole combination of her starting with these ideas over and over. We suddenly went from feeling paranoid to realising that there was more to it.

Her pulling down her fics is a pretty big admission of guilt for me. (She also had one already pulled down 'Before the Storm'? Makes me wonder what it was about.)
