Later he learns the most important reason for a name. It’s so you can say, when you dare, ‘Leoben Conoy loves Kara Thrace’. He repeats it like a mantra each time he emerges from the wet cradle, and he goes back just so he can hear her say ‘Frak you, Leoben’, and it washes over him like a wave of elation. Numbers can’t love other numbers. Numbers ( Read more... )

This is a lovely story. What an interesting exploration about how the cylons chose their names - I never did ask why and I'm glad you wrote this piece. Each one fits the character, and your expanation why for each character doesn't feel forced or OOC. The little sequence with Leoben's namesake made me laugh, especially with this line: Leoben Conoy plants a dozen nuclear devices and kills millions. Okay, maybe not that one.

That was unexpected. And those last two lines are perfect.

Wow. So good to see Kara/Leoben around-- I love their dynamic. So creepy. So beautiful.
And I love it when someone takes a stab at "cylon culture", if you will-- what's behind them, how they work psychologically, the why of the what. And besides, this was just beautifully written, and I like good writing.

What an interesting idea! I particularly liked this: Numbers can’t step out of line.

Very interesting. The idea of how Cylons got their human names and what they mean to them...and a little bit of Leoben being Leoben. I quite liked it. Lovely job.

ooh I loved this. Like another commenter above, I had never thought about how cylons chose their names. I like the reasoning you created. I totally laughed at the nuclear weapon line and enjoyed his little attempt at normal human life. And because it wouldn't be Kara/Leoben without a little bit of the creep factor, I liked how it ended with him thinking "frak you, Leoben" was practically a declaration of love.

Great first bsg fic. I hope you write more in this fandom (and definitely more with Leoben since there are so few stories with him out there)
