A/N: I didn't like the way I ended this one, but it took me forever to get any type of ending, so please, be kind, don't whine.
Lee Adama was drunk. Pissed off his arse, falling down, drunk. Of course, the reason for his intoxication centered on the usual: the one, the only, Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace. He had a number of other perfectly plausible reasons to be drunk. His father had only just gotten up out of bed for the first time since being shot by a pilot Lee respected. Said pilot had turned out to be a cylon. Kara had jumped back to Caprica, leaving him alone in his grief and stewing in anger. Baltar had slept with Kara. Or was it the other way around? Lee wasn’t so sure. All he knew now was that Kara had come back and barely said two words to him, even after she discovered what had happened to the Commander. That fact alone stung him painfully.
Now here he was, having humiliatingly lost yet another game of Pyramid to Baltar (who’d only returned from his ordeal on Kobol several days ago) and getting to his feet shakily. The rest of the crowd mumbled some words to Apollo, but he didn’t hear. He slowly stumbled out of the room, heading toward his quarters. Or, rather, communal pilots’ quarters. This was one of those times when Lee wished he had his own room, since he was fairly certain he was going to end up with his head in a toilet, and the latrines were only just a little less communal themselves.
Lee stumbled more than he would have liked and knew he was probably going to hear stories of his drunken failure at beating Baltar for the next couple of days. It was the drunken part of the story that he knew people would flock to the most. There just wasn’t anything else to do on Galactica when it’s the end of the world except play pyramid, kill cylons, sleep with odd choices of people, kill more cylons, go to funerals, get piss drunk, and gossip about it all later. But Apollo didn’t get drunk. He never lost control, as his father so astutely told him. Tonight, however, the great Apollo finally lost his cool and gulped down the better part of two bottles of Ambrosia. He was going to pay for that, big time.
Finally, after what seemed like a bad land navigation exercise, Lee reached pilots’ quarters. He realized that most pilots were either playing cards or engaging in other forms of recreation and for one glorious moment, Lee thought he’d be alone. Upon entering quarters, however, Lee found there was one other person reveling in some alone time. She was curled up in her bunk; head in a pillow and Lee figured she was catching some much-needed rest. Still, it was awkward since his bunk was right above hers. He tried to be as quiet as he could, and thought he’d succeeded as he started to clumsily climb up to his bunk, when he heard a distinct noise. It was muffled, but he knew that sound too well. Kara was crying. Lee froze, and instinct caused him to climb back down.
“Kara?” Gods his speech was slurred. “Why are you cryin’?” he asked, shaking his head vigorously and trying his best to sober up.
Immediately, he felt Kara tense. She pulled the pillow off her face slowly, looking up at Lee with red-rimmed eyes. “Lee, I’m only going to say this once. Get. Away. From. Me,” Kara replied, a low growl emanating from her throat as she spoke.
“Nope. No. Sorry, can’t do that,” Lee said, his voice thick. He’d never seen her this way and it was beginning to have a very strange effect on him. “I’m tired of this crap, Kara. And I’m way too drunk to reason with you on this,” Lee added, mussing his hair and rubbing his eyes.
Kara just looked at Lee for a while, taking in his appearance. She was shocked to discern that yes, Lee Adama, the CAG, was in fact, pissed beyond repair. She wanted to laugh, though her temper hammered down that instinct. No one, with the exception of the Adama family, had ever seen her cry, and that was a special circumstance. It was Zak’s funeral, why shouldn’t she have cried? She shook her head, getting Zak out of her mind.
“Lee, seriously. If you want to keep your face intact, you’ll get the frak away from me this instant,” Kara said, staring at Lee angrily and balling her fists. She knew she sounded weak, and it really bothered her, only making herself angrier.
Lee caught on quickly to Kara’s voice. She was an inch away from the breaking point. “Kara, I’m not leaving you. Something’s wrong,” he said, desperately trying to hold his stomach contents in.
“I’ll say. You’re drunk and now you feel the need to talk to me?” Kara asked accusingly.
“Whoa, back up there, killer. You think I haven’t been talking to you? Let me tell you something Kara, I’ve tried. You’re the one who jumped away without even telling me where you were going. You’re the one who left me here to watch my dad almost die, not having anyone to turn to for support except Tigh, and I don’t even wanna go there ‘cause his wife’s an insane bitch and she wants to get in everybody’s pants, even mine, and now you’re back and you won’t talk to me and you slept with Baltar,” Lee said, breathlessly.
Kara wanted to hit him, but she didn’t. “Lee, you’re still mad about Baltar? Why? You wanna know something? It meant nothing. I was drunk, not like you are now, but enough to make a mistake. And you’re holding it against me like we’re married or something, what the frak is up with that?” Kara asked incredulously.
“’Cause I love you,” Lee blurted out.
Kara immediately pulled Lee in for a kiss and smiled. “What the hell took you so long?” Kara asked.
“Why were you crying?” Lee asked.
“’Cause I love you too, you stupid superior asshole!” Kara replied, kissing Lee again.
“Well, now that that’s out, I won’t be getting piss drunk again anytime soon, thanks Lieutenant,” Lee replied, laughing.
“We’ll see about that,” Kara said, pulling Lee into her bunk and shutting the curtains.
And they lived happily dysfunctionally ever after. The end.
