High, Low, and In Between, A/Rsingerdiva01_skJuly 31 2015, 20:34:18 UTC
“Don’t come back, Bill.”
Her weak smile took the sting out of the order. He ducked his head but didn’t argue. Neither did she when he said he’d stay until she was asleep.
He retreated to his office after making the announcement. A day had passed but he could still feel her damp forehead against his lips, the softness of her hair as he stroked the strands back from her face.
He’d just made up his mind when the comm rang. His chest constricted and he had to cling to the desk to keep from falling. He was too late.
*****
He’d returned two hours ago, order given, and found himself back where he started: staring at the comm, trembling.
He barely let Cottle finish before he was out the door. He hadn’t expected his friend to be up and around but seeing her lying there, like the last time that was supposed to be the last time, was disconcerting

Time and Tide-You Can Never Go Back(Adama & Felix, Helo & Sharon)rigel66August 3 2015, 14:27:29 UTC
He couldn’t do it, he couldn’t look him in the eyes, couldn’t wade past the shifting blues and storm cloud greys that he knew still held the power to strand him on distant shore. He couldn’t do it, not because he feared he might see disappointment or resentment painted there; but because he didn’t want to look back past time and tide, the seasons and the seas. He couldn’t stand to see memory’s ghost dance in the admiral’s eyes across all the yesterdays when they still felt hope and promise. He knew if he even but stole a glance he would remember the high, the rush of blood and warmth that filled him when he had faith in himself and the path he chose to walk, when his love and respect for this man was still returned in kind. If he looked back he could never move forward to journey’s end

Haunting, gorgeously written, and so achy. The first one just killed me, reminding me of that agape/familial love between Felix and Adama that just broke into so many pieces. I can see Felix having these inner thoughts and fears--so sad. And Helo, longing for a simpler time even if he had thought back then it was complicated. Poor babies!

Ah, thanks for such a lovely review-it means a lot coming from you sense I know your wonderful way with words. I am never sure how readable my pieces are so the fact that you thought these were gorgeously written makes me very pleased. Every character had highs and lows, but these two instances always struck me, and I am glad I could do them some justice.
