I'm throwing out the rules for the next couple of days, because I've been wanting to do this again for a while as it was so much fun last time. Now that the Pentathlon and most gift exchanges are over, it seemed like a good idea, and I thought it might liven up the quietness of LJ a little bit too.

Sam caught her hand before it reached him, holding it between his own. His eyes were somewhere distant, so she focused on the smudge on his cheek. Dirt, soot, blast residue? It didn't have the right color for blood.
"Get her out?" she finally asked.
"Yea."
This would be the second time they acknowledge her existence. It hadn't been something Laura could spend her time dwelling on while the occupation continued. It tended to be the only thing Sam thought about.
Sometimes Laura liked to think he didn't, not when he was with her.
"Yea," he repeated. "I got her. I finally.. I finally got her back."
"That's wonderful."
"It's confusing."
"Don't let it be." She pulled her hand away from his.
He finally looked at her. "Laura-"
"Go." She crossed her arms, resisting the urge to step back. "Thank you for.. I'm glad you're alright."
"But you aren't glad she is."
"Don't." She felt angry suddenly, at him, for all the nights she wasn't alone. "Don't put this all on me."
"This is confusing."
"Sam-"
He pressed ahead, ignoring her warning. "Because I don't know how I feel about having her back."
"Just stop. Please."
Sam stepped forward, and she looked down rather than back away. When his hands came up to cradle her face, she tried not to flinch. "Laura." His forehead came down to rest on hers. "Laura, I need-"
"To keep things simple."
"I don't want this to be simple, because that means it meant something."
"Complicated isn't better." Her voice was shaking. She was still shaking.
"It means more time. Trying to understand."
"It means more pain."
"I think we've got some good stuff left."
"And Kara?"
"It's complicated."
She looked up at his thumbs brushed against her cheeks. "It always is."

I would have really liked to get more in depth with Sam's emotions/thoughts on his relationship with Kara. But that just might have been me wanting more of Sam -laugh-
