I'm throwing out the rules for the next couple of days, because I've been wanting to do this again for a while as it was so much fun last time. Now that the Pentathlon and most gift exchanges are over, it seemed like a good idea, and I thought it might liven up the quietness of LJ a little bit too.

Laura wasn't sure if she's supposed to be amused that, of all the admirals to survive, this one had to be it.
"I have questions."
"I have no reason to answer you."
Cain had gone out of her way to meet her on neutral ground. Laura hadn't found it endearing, it had just made the Admiral less interesting to her.
"You're a criminal who lives with other criminals. How much effort do you really think it would take for the Pegasus to cut you off from the fleet? To get that terrorist removed from the quorum?"
She dug her fingers into her thigh to keep them from reaching for her knife. Cain watched her a moment longer, than nodded.
"Good."
"Your questions?" Laura could feel her arm starting to shake.
"I don't care who, tell me why."
"You were a rising Tauron star. What did you think would happen? That everyone would be willing to let you pass them without question? Old prejudices are hard to remove."
Military officers scrambling over each other had hardly been a new experience for Laura. Cain had seemed genuinely surprised when she'd stabbed her though. As if she hadn't known there was a target on her back. Maybe she just hadn't realized the attack would come from out of uniform.
"Who got you off my ship?"
"It wasn't one of your crew." Laura smiled, feeling the tension begin to drain out of her body. Cain had her own exposed nerves to be exploited. "Not like now. Any more snakes in your bed are yours to find."
The admiral's nostrils flared but her blank expression didn't waver.
"All dissidents have been stamped out."
"Yet you had to ask. Like any high ranking officer you let your love of pussy distract you. Still worried someone can catch you off your guard?"
"I survived you, I'll survive her."
"You still bled."
The admiral turned sharply, but stopped before she could fully show her back. The scars would still be there, under the uniform. They weren't alone, Laura had found plenty of others before adding to the collection.
"Good day admiral."
