Madame President, (K) marzipanilla May 22 2012, 21:49:53 UTC
"Madame President. Madame President!"

Laura froze, finally realizing that she was the one being shouted at. Awkwardly, she turned towards the owner of the voice.

The young man grinned sheepishly at her, reminding her of Billy. She had left her aide to catch a nap amidst all the FTL jumps, and was just heading through the back of the ship in search of snacks; which he normally fetched for her.

"Yes?" She asked tentatively. Being addressed as the president was still new, and surreal. Everything with her new position still felt out of place. Laura could hardly believe when the ship's captain had dubbed the vessel 'Colonial One'; having actually been on board that ship before.

"I just.." The boy blushed, and Laura realized just how young he was.

She wondered if he was alone, how many people he had lost in the attacks.

"It's just.. wow. I never thought I'd get to meet you."

Laura blinked owlishly at him, a part of her wanting to correct him. She wasn't the president. Richard.. Richard was dead. She had been sworn in after the decimation of her species.

"Well," she pulled her arms, crossed across her chest, closer. "Hello." She hoped it was the lack of sleep that made her response so stilted.

"Tyson!" A woman poked her head out of the compartment, spotting the boy. "I don't want you wandering off, what are you.." Her eyes landed on Laura and widened.

Laura tried not to be startled by her reaction. Of course people would recognize her. It shouldn't be surprising that random people would know who she was. People had recognized her as Secretary of Education. The looks she had received then hadn't been filled with awe, though.

"Sorry ma'am," the woman babbled. "I didn't mean for him to bother you, he just wandered off, and.."

"Oh, no. It's alright." She offered a shaky smile as the woman wrapped an arm around the boy, pulling him back into the compartment.

The boy waved. "Good bye Madame President!"

Oh my gods, Laura thought. If we don't all die in the next thirty-three minutes, I'm going to be famous.
