I'm out of ideas again today, and I know it was only a couple of months ago that we did this, but it was fun, so let's do it again ( Read more... )

What is your idea of a perfect fic about your favorite pairing?

(Kara's finger-holding! It is killing me.)

I am so sorry I'm going to get long-winded.

As much as it soothes my soul to think of Kara/Sam in some slice of heavenly bliss, I most want to see them going through all the ups and downs of living together before their respective deaths. So something New Caprica-based for canon-compliance, I guess, or an AU where they meet on Caprica before the fall. I love their happy moments and their conflicts and their tangible physical attraction and the way they sometimes talk things out after sex (they have post-sex conversations, you guys, and it is amazing!) and the way she pushes him away with one arm but always pulls him back with the other, and the perfect fic for me will have all of that. The drunken flirtation, the sober flirtation, Kara learning to open up to Sam, the inevitable arguments, the husband-and-wife pyramid! They'd stick together in the long run no matter how messy things got.

(And preferably it wouldn't pretend she never had any feelings for Lee. Kara/Sam are my OTP and I ( ... )

Aaaah all of the things you mention are exactly what I would like to see in a fic about the Magnificent Anderses, specifically, they have post-sex conversations, you guys, and it is amazing! because: yes! They're so fun and happy together and genuinely like one another, which can be so rare for TV couples. Them them themmmmmmm.

What's your favourite unusual (non-canon or rarely written) pairing, and why?

This turned out to be harder than I expected! I'm a much bigger fan of their friendship as is, but Kara/Helo is a favorite. They've got history!

I've never seen Natalie/Lee anywhere, but I keep thinking I'd like to.

*rolls up sleeves*

Okay, it hurts my heart, but he can get shot because it means he gets to see Kara's fiercely beautiful loyalty and concern for him. The surgery to remove the bullet would be completely successful and he'd be expected to make a full recovery. Lee would choose not to lead the campaign to fly all their technology into the sun, making Sam's (and everybody's) odds of survival that much better, and Sam would live as full a life as possible on Earth and see Kara on the other side regardless of the timing of his death.

In a perfect world, Kara wouldn't have died in Maelstrom and they could have another shot at life as husband and wife on Earth -- I think Kara tastes enough regret through seasons three and four that those experiences could help her be more capable of maintaining a romantic relationship, especially with him -- but I won't get into her story as much here. Mostly I just want Sam to live and die by his own choices and not die alone in what I can only imagine as burning agony as Galactica heads for the sun.

What is the fic you want to write but probably never will?

Every now and then I envision bits and pieces of what I can only imagine would be an epic-length BSG/Lost crossover. Ben would have a head!Six of his own, and Raptors from Galactica would show up after the crash of flight 815 and all three factions on the island would have to navigate the island's mysteries. But... I've never written really long fic, I have more scenes in mind than I do an overall plot, and I was pretty disenchanted by Lost toward the end, so I think it's safe to say it'll never happen.

What was the most frustrating moment for you in BSG?

Oh, man. Two moments immediately come to mind as frustrating for me on the first viewing and equally frustrating to this day.

The first is when we get through the trial at the end of season three, in which Lee delivers this beautiful speech that I just can't disagree with no matter how fed up I get with Gaius along the way, and then Gaius immediately gets a harem. The cult of Gaius is one of my least favorite storylines.

The second is during the EoJ/Rapture arc when Sam wants to go after Kara's downed Raptor and Lee first orders Mathias to train her gun on him and then sends Dee after Kara instead. I guess they needed the dramatic tension on the planet, but I can never understand what leads Lee to think it'd be any better for him to have Sam shot for trying to leave. Sending Dee after Kara was a more reasonable move -- he did know Dee had a visual -- but it's such a painful thing to ask of her that it kind of adds to my frustration in the moment.

What's your favorite episode and why?

This is so hard. I think the season finales are some of my favorite episodes, but I'm being really tough on my favorites to try to narrow this down and with two-parters there's double the opportunity for a subplot or scene I don't like as much.

Looking at it like that, You Can't Go Home Again is leading the pack. It's the follow-up in the one-two punch that made me love Starbuck. We get to see her being so brave and resourceful against the odds; we see the inside of a Raider for the first time; we get to see Bill throwing away his regard for the rules and stubbornly searching for Kara after the painful confession she'd made in the previous episode; we get that "If it were you, we'd never leave" chat between Bill and Lee; Laura provides our dearly dysfunctional Adama men with a verbal kick in the butt; and that kiss Bill gives Kara's forehead at the end of the episode is one of my favorite moments between those two.

I'm not a huge Kara fan but that ep stands out as one of my favorite Kara episodes. So much tension and I loved everything you mentioned about it.

This is kind of an odd question, but what's the earliest you think Kara would forgive Sam for turning out to be a Cylon? Like, say, Cavil had spilled it at LDYB or he'd been outed at the algae planet, or whenever.

(and also friending you, since we're tripping over each other's fannishness in two different comms and obviously we both <3 Senor Trucco. *g*)
