So, I decided to go to Natchitoches for graduation afterall. The graduation itself was not too bad. I got to see lots of people I haven't seen in a while. Abbey and Celia were there to lighten the mood. Abbey's just a little ADD so it was fun to watch her bounce around the HSB like there were no walls - and if it weren't for her mom's PSP she would've gone nuts in the Alumni meetings. Speaking of which, the alumni meetings were very enlightening to me. Applicantions are up (over 500) and they invited 245 students to become juniors next year. Best part is that I know at least 7 of them from ADVANCE - they didn't provide a list so I don't know of more :-(
It all kinda makes me wish they had hired me, since I know so many of the incoming juniors. Some of the instructors actually thought I had been offered the job and turned it down. I had to set the record straight. Had they offered me the job, I would've taken it in a heartbeat. That's with Adam left in Rolla - that would've hurt a whole lot, but returning to LSMSA as an instructor is a big goal of mine. Besides, I'd be able to visit Adam and the rest during the summer months :-D
My trip down to Natchitoches, however, was HELL. Just to list a few of the "interesting" things to happen:
- About 20 miles outside of Springfield, the tread of my tire came OFF. It literally flew into the air as I was traveling at 70 MPH down the highway. I'm glad I didn't flip in the car. The tire didn't go flat though so I got the privilege of waiting 3 HOURS for people to replace my tires. I was SO PISSED, because I had brought the car to the dealer the day before complaining about that same tire and they said "Nothing's wrong".... I did get a big bad free oil change after I complained when I got back... ooooooooo
- In Bumfuck, AR (some place on US 65), my car lost power due to a bad tank of gas I picked up in Rolla. I treated it with some treatment. So I didn't have many more power issues after that, but my oil gauge stayed going ape shit the whole trip. I'm so glad I traded that car in - I was going to give it to Adam for his birthday, but I just didn't trust it enough to give to him (though I did get $1000 on the trade-in).
- FUNNY - going through Arkansas (a state that knows very little about North-South roads), I came across the funniest named gas station ever - Kum & Go. Believe it or not, there were LOTS of them. I laughed out loud each time I saw one. Fucking hilarious!
- I then passed through a town called St. Joe with a population of... 55.. FIVE FIVE... OMFG, they had a fucking light too. And in this town there was a DQ - thats Daisy Queen, not Dairy. My God, the people of Arkansas need to die. The whole state should become a sinkhole.
- And last, but not least, my SES (Service Engine Soon) Light flickered so many times; but to brighten the mood I came across Toad Suck Park, AR. Who the fuck names a park TOAD SUCK!!!!
That's the highlights....
I did get a new(er) car today. A 2000 Buick Century with power everything. That'll make any trips to New Orleans or Chicago much safer and any trip to see Adam (assuming I'm invited) a lot better. I'm still working on Adam's present since my car idea fell through :-( I still have two weeks to finish it up, so I have time. I just don't know what I'm going to do about this.
More stuff as happened, but this entry is already too long, so I might write it up another day.
