New (to me) Music
I try to keep on the look out for new music - to keep me from buying any more 80/new wave/ska music - not that there's anything wrong with that but time has moved on. Anyway this turned up for me at the library. I must have heard it on KCMU KEXP and then put it on hold. I think I really like it and it's really cool - but I'm not entirely sure.
I found a review of him online which calls his music "Beach Boys-influenced experimental pop". I think I could have looked for adjectives a very long time before coming up with "Beach Boys-influenced". Honestly the reason I was looking up reviews was I wasn't sure it this was "kids" music or not. This album at least has some very Circusy sounds in it.
Anyway, I think Shugo is my new favorite band/artist replacing Rachel Yamagata and Imogene Heap. We'll have to wait and see if the Circusy thing starts to grate.
