Finally updated my hair color, red again but with a shift to orange and then gold at the tips. Maybe I'll put up pics at some point. We got to host
hexapod and
tilos for the weekend as well, and that was a real pleasure. Among other things, we toured my collection of whiskeys and I think they were left with the same impression I have: good Scotch can be better than good Bourbon, but good Bourbon is cheaper and good Scotch isn't that much better. For reference, we had
Ezra Brooks,
Jefferson's,
Dalmore 12, and
Balvenie 17 New Oak. My own ranking was something like Balvenie, Jefferson's, Dalmore, Ezra Brooks: compare with the price ranking of Balvenie, Dalmore, Jefferson's, Ezra Brooks.
The party on Saturday was very nice. It ran for at least twelve hours from the time the first guest arrived until the last guest left, with a period of having just one guest on which to focus attention on either end. We spec'ed out the beer pretty much perfectly, but were left with dozens of leftover hamburger patties and almost as many hot dogs (and buns to match each!). That many left overs, despite the fact that I was constantly restarting the grill to cook up another batch of meat or meat substitutes.
I got to introduce a few people to the Gorilla's Tit drink (I'd link to a recipe, but webtender has gone web-crazy and all the recipes online aren't nearly as good as the one I use: half a shot each of Ezra Brooks, Gosling Black Seal, and any real coffee liqueur over ice), and
misphit made a fantastic fruity rum punch.
We also had a rather large
game of Werewolf going for a few rounds. In my experience, incidentally, Werewolf goes over great at parties for 2-3 rounds, at which point it turns into complete chaos and it's time to let people get back to just having a party. Beyond that threshold, it takes a bit more commitment to keeping track of the other players, it takes more time as people argue more about what happened historically, and so on.
Sunday featured me mostly just sitting around the house; Monday had a bit of visiting with family, and more time playing it cool.
misphit and I watched Prince Caspian, and I'm not sure if I'll watch more of the Chronicles of Narnia. As a child, their heavy-handedness didn't grate nearly so much, and I think it's just much better suited to a younger audience. Ditto with the new Indy movie, which I saw last Thursday: hard for me to compare it to my childhood memories, but not nearly as bad as the
last time Lucas mined my childhood memories for gold.
Something I meant to link to yesterday but forgot, shame on me: a
game community manager's perspective on soldiers and Memorial Day.
