BASICS
Name/Nickname: Katie
Age (please at least confirm that you are 13 or over): 31
Personal style: Somewhat trendy. I love flared jeans, fitted tops and wedge sandals. I for some inexplicable reason am obsessed with anything Juicy Couture.
What is your favorite quote? "Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans." - John Lennon
How you see yourself: A successful single woman. I've been able to achieve many of my dreams (graduate college, get a job in the field I want and be good at it, live in California). I also have many great friends and we have a ball no matter what we do, whether it's just hanging out or hitting the town.
Of your accomplishments and/or strengths, what do you take the most pride in? Hmmm...honestly, making the move to Los Angeles and making it on my own. I know a lot of people who have tried to make it out here and have failed. I'm almost 2 years strong and can't imagine ever wanting to leave.
What would you describe as your biggest weakness? I often (in my personal life) start projects and don't end up finishing them. For example, I bought a bike recently with the intent of riding it often. After the first few weeks, it's basically sat in my apartment. I'll say "let's get back into playing the piano." I bought some piano books. Was good about it for a month, then dropped it too.
What is your biggest fear? Biggest fear, hmmm. I don't really know. There are things that I'm afraid of, like spiders but that's not really my biggest fear. I guess I'd say not having the chance to be and do all that I want to do in this life.
How do you cope with stress/difficult situations? I'm not often stressed I'm pretty laid back. But, if I am super stressed about something I try to talk to a friend, sing, get a work out in, perhaps go for a walk, play with my cat, etc. Anything to distract myself and help clear my head.
Do you regularly keep a journal? If so, what do you use it for? I have a lj, but haven't updated it in years thanks to facebook. I do have a sports blog, which I write in...sometimes.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS
How others see you: I've been told that I'm smart, funny, caring, easy going, successful.
Which qualities do you value most in other people? I love being around people who have a great sense of humor, caring, and don't take life too seriously.
Which qualities can turn you off from a person? Closed-mindedness. Biggotry. Materialism, which I see a lot of in LA. In fact, just last week my friend and I were out at a bar and this guy actually used the line "my friend and I are rich." Our response? "We make our own money."
What is your relationship with your family members like? My family is pretty close, I am very close with both of my parents and most of my extended family. I will say that as I've gotten older I've learned more about the dysfunction that exists and sometimes wish for the days of innocence when I didn't know about those issues. But overall we are very close. No one family is perfect anyway, right?
What is your relationship with your friends like? I have a lot of great friends, spread out all across the country. I still have close friends from high school and college, which is really awesome. I also have many great new friends that I've met in my adult life and continue to meet. I'm a pretty friendly and out-going person so I think that helps a lot.
Attitude toward romantic relationships: I used to have the nickname "boy crazy Katie." I still like boys, but that fairy tale image of marriage and the like has completely changed as I've grown. I have enjoyed being single and in relationships. Both have their positives and negatives. My focus now is on being happy. I'm not going to get married because society says I should, and I hate the word "settle." If I get married it will be because I meet someone that I truly believe in my heart and soul that I could spend forever with. But if I don't ever get married I'm not going to go into despair about it. I've seen too many divorces and unhappy marriages (plus a long term relationship that almost ended in marriage but thank goodness it didn't - I'd be divorced or severely unhappy by now if I did)) too worry about whether I'm married or not. I'll just continue to be me and make myself happy and maybe along the way I'll meet someone that compliments that well.
THE FUTURE
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be? Why? When I was a kid, my dream was to live in California someday. Well, I'm here. So in a way, I'm already living where I always wanted to. However, if I had a chance to live somewhere else for a period of time I'd choose London or Ireland.
Where would you like to be 10 years from now? Happy, healthy, hope to have moved up career wise into a nice position, live closer to the beach (and perhaps afford to own a place rather than rent), still have awesome friends, and...I would still like to be married with a kid, but that's not at the top of the list.
What is your dream job/career? I'm already sort of there working in the entertainment industry, but a dream job? I'd want to be a sports analyst for the NFL/MLB. Either on the field or on a radio show/TV show.
OPTIONAL
Describe and/or include a scan of your handwriting: I don't have a scanner. However, my handwriting can be described as mostly cursive with a mix of printed letters in it. The BSC member's handwriting that I'm probably closest to is Kristy, but mine's a lot messier. :-p
