Hey, guys! Sorry this took a while. I actually like this book, but it isn't that easy to snark. I've also been busy studying for my midterms. But I got around to writing more. Enjoy!

I am not a parent yet and I'm an abnormally anxious person, but I feel like I would want to walk my kid over, even if it was across the street.

When I was a TEENAGER is when I wouldn't.

Funny how that works.

The friends' mother picks them all up and believes Kristy's story that her mother said she could go to the movies. I don't know, it doesn't seem that responsible, I feel like she definitely should have confirmed with Liz.

Even back then, yes, you'd confirm with the parents before driving someone else's kids anywhere. The only exception was if you were driving the kid home.

Liz makes all three kids leave (it's not really fair to Sam and Charlie. She says Charlie should have known Kristy was lying, but he's a nine year old boy.)

Liz's manic here is understandable.

As they go home, Kristy sits in the front seat with Liz, which... isn't safe. All these things she isn't allowed to do, and she's allowed in the front seat?

Kristy was born in 1974. This would be 1979. I was born in 1980. Not only were infants allowed in the front seat, carseats weren't even a requirement. In the 80's, we used to pack into the back to station wagons, and you have no idea how fun it is to ride in the bed of a pickup truck. Vehicles didn't go as fast then, and they were much hardier in accidents. Kristy in the front seat isn't a big deal. It's more dangerous NOW because of faster, lighter cars that crunch easier, and airbags.

I just think she gives them too many privileges.

Completely normal privileges for the time.

Her dad said what she did showed spunk and she shouldn't be punished.

Even though her brothers' rules were normal, she knew her rules and chose to disobey them. What she did is disobedience, not spunk.

going to bed at 9

My bedtime was 8. It went to 8:30, then 9, thanks to the Simpsons starting.

Kristy says she'll never get to see what happens. What about videotape? I know you have to wait for the release, but they had VHS tapes back
then.

1979. Oh, boy. VCRs and Betamax players were EXPENSIVE, and it was common to RENT those machines into the 80's. We didn't own one until 1983, the year I was 3 (it was so cool watching a movie on my 4th birthday in a machine we owned, and that was extremely prestigious in our neighborhood). Not every movie went to tape, and those that went to tape might not have always gone to the format you had. I had to look for movies with two holes because the one-hole boxes were Betamax. Remember the BluRay-HD-DVD war? Where most movies were only on one or the other? It was like that, only more expensive to play in the war in the early 80's.

So, long story short, it makes sense to likely not get to see a movie later, back when watching movies in FILM REELS wasn't uncommon. Oh yes. Reel-to-reel film. At home. At school. VCRs starting to be used in school was AWESOME.

This book is giving me flashbacks. :)
