Well, well, well! So when I got up today I really felt like snarking. Yes, even more than playing Sims. I decided to tackle this Super Special because I've been wanting to do this one for a while.Don't get me wrong. I don't really have anything against Jessi though she may be a little egotisical and bland. But omg, do I love when the BSC's ego ( Read more... )

My favorite book! As a costumer for my job (yes, seriously, ballet dancer for years, now a Girl Scout leader, mom of an autistic child in ballet, costumer...) this book just cracks me the fuck up.

Please pardon that I may have a lot to say about this book. Also Peter Pan is a music one of the companies I volunteer for put on not too long ago. :)

Jessi, naturally, thinks she'll get the lead role. She actually thinks she already has the part.

This makes me think about how Beyoncé was so sure she'd get the role of Tiana in Princess and the Frog that she didn't even bother going in to audition. The point of an audition is not only to see how someone sounds and performs, but ALSO how well the person can take orders and work with the director and other crew. This will come back into play with Karen later.

And Jessi, bless her ego, is like, 'Who else would get it? I'm obviously the best!'

And when she doesn't, it'll obviously be because of racism.

I know SMS is about as progressive as a witch burning, but I would hope they'd cast ( ... )

Jessi starts her chapter by kissing her own ass about 'wowing' Mr Cheney at the audition.

Have we ever been given a reason to think Jessi is a triple-threat? Dancing and acting don't mean you can sing.

Jessi starts her chapter by kissing her own ass about 'wowing' Mr Cheney at the audition. Let's say he had. For something like this, she'd still be called back so he can see how well other actors work with her ( ... )

It makes me think that if Jessi did get the part, she'd be a HUGE prima dona and get pissy about the dances not being challenging enough for HER talent. She'd be complaining the whole time about not being able to show off what a good dancer she is.

No director would EVER make a part for a kid who won't listen like this

That really is should be what happened. It's basically saying that if you're bratty and throw tantrums, you'll get your way. Really great lesson for the kiddies, Ann!

Also isn't this show for the public school kids?

No, see you're mistaken. The show is open to SHS, SMS, SES and Karen only. No other kids from her school are allowed to try out because they're not the princess.

Have we ever been given a reason to think Jessi is a triple-threat?Jessi's not even a double threat as far as I know. We only have her word to go by about what a good actress she is ( ... )

Good dancers are usually decent actors since dance involves a lot of acting, but yes, you're right, this isn't the same as stage-acting in a musical or play.

Also isn't this show for the public school kids? This isn't a community theater production. Public School teachers are directing, it's happening at a public school, which means it's paid by the school system, meaning why if Karen even allowed to audition?

I haven't read this one, but according to previous sporkings of this book, it's a combined performance by the elementary, middle, and high schools plus Stoneybrook Academy.

But that doesn't make sense. Karen is literally the only kid named in the entire show who isn't from one one the public schools. Wouldn't Hannie or Nancy enjoy doing this? Literally every other kid is from SES, SMS, or SHS. Public schools and private schools don't come together to put on joint-productions like this, especially for the sake of one student. If Karen wasn't in this, there'd be no doubt that this is the Stoneybrook public school system doing this show.

Later on, Jackie references SES specifically. He got to miss school for rehearsals, and SES went to see the dress rehearsal because kids from the school were in it.

Karen is so just plucked from Stoneybrook Academy because she's a snowflake. I really think this is a public school production, but since Ann loves Karen so much, she doesn't care that Karen isn't in one of those schools.

Or maybe the ghost writer just forgot that Karen didn't go to SES.
