I'd never gotten this far in the series so, I had no idea what to expect from this book. You can imagine my horror to find out it's about child neglect. Again. Why does Ann always write such horrible parents?! I understand that the series focuses on the BSC so, the parents are really just stage dressing but she does this all the time. You could

Know what's amazing? So we all know the Duggars have eleventy million kids. 8 of them are still under 18, and the youngest is 7 years old. The Duggar "parents" are so against raising their own kids that, despite having 9 adult daughters still living at home, they hired a live-in childcare helper.
Can you imagine having 2 daughters who are adults and I've at home to help with their 8 minor-siblings (just ignore the adult sons who still live at home--they can't be expected to do the women's job of dealing with kids), 8 more kids ranging from 7 to 16, and hiring another live-in person to take care of your kids for you?
While Mal is bitching about that, the triplets come up all pissed because they're too old to be babysat.
They're too young to be alone for a couple hours, yet Jessi, at just a year older, could stay home for a weekend?
I always hated the Prezziosos for this.
I hate most of the parents in these books.
Mary Anne is like, 'Well, I want to go outside, so that's what we're doing!' and drags Jenny out the front door.
No wonder she and Kristy are best friends. They don't respect the kids they babysit. Ever. Remember Susan?
Okay, so she doesn't want to get dirty and isn't the most polite with the other kids. But I ask you, what is the big fucking deal?!
Especially since she clearly didn't want to go outside to begin with!
She thinks it could be sibling rivalry but claims Jenny is over that.
At 13, Claudia's not over it.

Ann is really bad at what kids of certain ages can and cannot do. Mal and Jessi can sit but the triplets need constant supervision? And I'm sure that when Mal was ten, the Pikes had her taking care of her siblings. Maybe not home alone but definitely keeping an eye on them. And the weird thing is, Jeff is the same age at the triplets yet he would get home before Dawn and be alone for a while. So, I don't know what's with Ann and how she thinks kids and responsibility works.
Especially since she clearly didn't want to go outside to begin with!
That's an excellent point! Mary Anne forced Jenny into doing something she clearly didn't want to and then got mad that she acted rude? You put her in a bad mood and get mad at her for that? Mmm hmm!
At 13, Claudia's not over it.
Another excellent point. No one ever seems to point out how Claudia treats Janine because she's 'boring'. The just let her act like a brat but it's what Janine deserves for being a brain. They think it's funny and justified.
