I'd never gotten this far in the series so, I had no idea what to expect from this book. You can imagine my horror to find out it's about child neglect. Again. Why does Ann always write such horrible parents?! I understand that the series focuses on the BSC so, the parents are really just stage dressing but she does this all the time. You could

But she still had to sit for her siblings because God only knows what would happen if the Pikes watched their own kids for a change.--Lovely. She doesn't feel well and still has to take care of her zoo animal siblings. *rolls eyes*
How come Mal had to have an unreasonable amount of responsibility pushed on her at a young age while all the other little apes get to have a childhood? --And she wants to be treated like she's an adult. She doesn't realize that's already happening in a lot of ways. And I'd also bring up why the children were raised to be so goddamn lazy. Can't pick toppings you don't like off your pizza? Can't clean up your own milk that you spilled? I'm surprised they're not getting Mallory to wipe their asses.
I can skim the rest of the chapter only stopping to hate Ann for being a coward and pointing out that Claudia is skinny when she should be fat.--And I cringe thinking of the chapter 2 descriptions if Claudia did gain weight. I know I'd be tempted to look for matches and set fire to the book because you know it'd be just as obnoxious as all the other descriptions for overweight people the girls have met throughout the series.
Mary Anne is like, 'Well, I want to go outside, so that's what we're doing!' and drags Jenny out the front door.--Nice. *shakes head*
But I am pissed that the Prezziosos aren't even noticing this.--I'd be surprised if many of the parents really noticed anything about their kids. I pointed that out about Charlotte's parents. You'd think they would be the ones to ask their daughter about the shit the cult forces her to be a part of. "You normally don't like to perform, be on stage, etc. Why the change of heart?" But nope, nothing's said. Just worry about Charlotte's meltdowns when they happen!
Mary Anne tries to push Jenny into joining because she thinks it'll take her mind off cleanliness.--Nope, can't expect Jenny to have a meltdown at that! I get trying to take her mind off this, just don't think a sport where you're expected to get a bit dirty will help matters.
The Death of K Ron and Karen! --Fuck yeah!
Two graves, two ash piles. Who's gonna clean that mess?!--LOL! Amazing!
Enjoyed the snark! :)

Right? I could see it if there were two other kids. Two other well behaved kids but a whole house of rowdy kids? I think it'd be more rest sitting for like Charlotte than the Pike brood.

It's ridiculous how the Pikes treat Mal. They expect her to be a mini parent to her siblings, while they have zero responsibilities but she has no say in her clothes or hair? They treat her as an adult as far as raising her siblings goes but otherwise they treat her like a little kid. I've mentioned it before, but when I was younger than Mal, I had a choice in my wardrobe. Whenever school year rolled around, my mom would take me out shopping and we had to both approve of what she bought. And she did this while still allowing me a childhood. Of course, I am an only child so that may make a difference.

I'm torn on this because I feel like body diversity is a very important topic and needs to be discussed and done. Because we know Ann hates fat people and wouldn't be able to do it right. That's why I headcanon Claudia gained weight and was okay with it because being fat doesn't make you ugly or a bad person.
