Dawn apparently had a parakeet named Buzz when she was in first grade.--Surprising. Dawn doesn't strike me as being a pet person at all.

I don't know why Dawn must complain about everything.--Some things never change. :D

She starts by snarking their car, which is a "small, banged-up red thing painted all over with brightly colored flowers and white peace symbols. A plastic flowed bobbed on the tip of the radio antenna."--And this is the thing that kills me about Dawn. It's not your car, not your family's car. It's the car for a completely different family and yet she's acting like she's gonna die of shame because SHE has to ride in the car every single day. That's not happening, Dawn. On the other hand, I guess this is another thing that fits in the category of 'some things never change'. Somebody else has a different diet than I do, let me bitch. Somebody organizes their closet differently than I do, let me bitch.

to Dawn's "horror" which sounds a bit weird to me.--Yeah, are we missing the parts where the family members are doing blood sacrifices in the yard or something?

I'm really wondering what Dawn's teacher thinks of her upon reading how judgmental she is in her autobiography.--"I see Dawn's being judgmental even as a kid. I guess some things really never change." lol, why do I feel like that's gonna be my theme for this part of my replies? :D

They're being themselves. Good for them.--And to me they just sound happy and carefree.

As I became an adult and reread these books she's started to piss me off, particularly in little miss Stoneybrook when she makes a big fuss about Jessi and Mal's induction ceremony,--A lot of these characters just didn't age well at all for me and it's mainly due to some of their very disturbing personality traits, traits they showed over and over again. It wasn't a case of doing something shitty once, realizing how horrible you were acting and you changed your tune.

every time she's nasty to her friends about what they eat--*nod* I blame Dawn and I also blame the other girls too. It really should be a laid back attitude for everybody. "You eat what you eat and I'll eat what I eat. No judgment on either side of the aisle."

(which is also Dawn's nickname.)--I guess it would've been too rude for Dawn's nickname to be Ms. Bitchy instead, eh?

don't watch TV,--And now look at how you'll act as a teenager. They treat the tv like it's the devil box or some shit like that. I'll be honest and say as a kid/teenager, I would've thought it was unusual for a person to never watch tv. I wouldn't necessarily act like you're freaks from another planet though. I'll admit my attitude has changed now that I'm older. I don't think it's unusual now to not watch tv. I'm almost to that road myself. I still watch a few things, it's just not as many things as I used to watch when I was younger.

and make a homemade lunch on the day they move in when "on moving day, most people get take-out to eat on the run."--And Dawn says the keyword right in her sentence--MOST. Most isn't all, Dawn. There's so many reasons why people might choose to throw something together at home instead of ordering take out.

Well maybe Sunny doesn't want to be friends with an asshole girl as egotistical and judgmental as Dawn Read Schafer. --True. I'm just not into this shit at all anymore. I think people like Dawn are emotional vampires. "Being around you is draining. All you do is bitch and you're usually bitching about stuff that doesn't even involve YOU. How can I not feel tense when I see you coming at me or calling me on the phone? Here we go. No chance in hell it's gonna be a pleasant conversation at least half the time. I'm gonna end up being grouchy because I'm hanging around you."

Seriously, why is she our protagonist?--I really wonder that about a lot of the cult members tbh. I can root for Mallory and think she's a good kid, while still calling her out on stupid shit she pulls. I can root for Claudia and find she's a good kid at least 3/4 of the time. And I can root for Shannon because I think they underused her enough that they couldn't fuck her character up. And that's about it. They fucked the others up so badly that it's impossible to root for. Take the Tess book, am I supposed to be supporting Stacey? 'Yeah, you make over that girl so she's acceptable to the rest of the school. Poor Stacey, she tries so hard and that bitch Tess is making things harder by refusing her help!" No. I can't sit over there and think that.

Sunny and her parents are setting up their water bed, which, what a surprise, Dawn internally snarks.--Well, isn't it a good thing you don't have to sleep on it, Dawn!!! I admit I'm not that crazy about water beds either but at least I'm not over here bitching about the people that prefer water beds to any other kind of bed.

Sunny has a tie-dyed bedspread--Sounds cool to me.

Dawn thinks "it didn't look to me like it were made of dead ties."---????? Did Dawn and Claudia do a mind swap for this?

She actually thinks, "poor Sunny, her toys are pathetic."--Never stopping to think Sunny must be happy with her toys or else she'd have other kind of toys!

I find this ironic since Dawn becomes such an environmentalist later.--I just have a hard time swallowing this with the way she acts, especially in Saves the Planet. IF a person really cares about the environment, they're gonna keep doing their thing whether they get a lot of attention or not. No, Dawn throws a shitfit instead. "If I hear recycle one more time, I'll scream!"

Then, Dawn has the audacity to insult Sunny's favorite stuffed animal, a stuffed crocodile.--It's really surprising Sunny became friends with Dawn. Why would I want to be with somebody that insults the things I like? There's playful teasing and then there's insulting--it's two different things imo.

Dawn states that she wasn't even close to interested but was too polite to show it.--Sure. Whatever you say, Dawn.

and Dawn doesn't think Sunny's tie-dyed shirt is pretty --Well, isn't it a nice thing that YOU don't have to wear it, Dawn!

One of her character traits is that she's an individual who doesn't care what other people think about her.--I just got done reading the snarks on the tag for the Older Boy snark. I think they dropped the ball in the individual area for that book. I still think Travis and Sara get kicks from fucking with other people's heads. I just can't believe they didn't have one scene that has Dawn questioning her "I'm an individual" beliefs. Okay, so these people are fucking with my head. What does it mean that I was so quick to run off and do something because it was coming from a man I was attracted to? Will this be a constant theme in my life? Will I be a strong enough individual to tell somebody "I like my hair the way it is" if this happens again? Will I be a strong enough individual to shut down somebody that doesn't know me but still tries to order something for me to eat? I said this on a few snarks--Dawn would've eaten the hamburger in front of Travis if he had ordered her one imo.

And everyone thinks it's awesome so Dawn can shove it about people thinking sunny is weird.--I wouldn't trust Dawn for a friend. She's a flip flopper imo. So the people at the store think Sunny and her mom are cool, tell me what happens in Dawn's head if she's with another crowd of people and those people think Sunny's a weirdo freak and they're laughing at her? "I was starting to question if I really wanted to be friends with Sunny. Maybe I could avoid her at school and just be friends with her as long as we weren't in public?" Dawn strikes me as being a big enough bitch to think this imo.

Enjoyed the snark! :)

I didn't watch much TV as a teen, but that was also because a lot of the shows on TV weren't for me. I watched a lot of the things my parents watched, though.

I don't get why AMM thinks TV = evil. I'd say it was her age, but she's my parents' generation and they watched plenty of TV (besides I Love Lucy and Leave it to Beaver, which seem to be among her exceptions.) Maybe she was raised in a more conservative family? (Not necessarily conservative in the political sense, just in terms of their behavior.) Maybe she just wanted to promote "good" habits?
