If Claudia is having such trouble with school and her parents place such an emphasis on education, why haven’t they been monitoring Claudia’s schoolwork more closely? --That's what I don't understand. The Kishi parents aren't written as being deadbeats that don't give a shit about Claudia or Janine! It's not like they're saying "Susie, come over here." "Susie's not my name, it's Claudia." I don't understand the missing homework assignments. I've been reading a lot of old snarks lately--did Claudia blow off turning in homework in 7th grade during the early part of the series. How does that work? Is Claudia bullshitting her parents? "I've already done all my homework!" How has the school not contacted about all the missing homework before? I would think by at least a week of not turning in homework, there'd be contact with parents about the kid not turning in their work.
But Mrs. Kishi said they didn’t realize how badly Claudia was doing in the last chapter.--I just don't see how that's possible during ANY of the storylines Claudia's doing badly in school--whether it was 7th grade the first time around or even this time around in 8th grade. Hasn't she been in school long enough to get a progress report? Is Claudia forging her parents signatures? Oh man, I don't even want to think about that. Claudia could probably nail their writing style down, question I have is if she'd misspell her own parents names?
So why is this book called Claudia Kishi, Middle School Dropout?--Do you think it could be a slight nod to "Grease"? I admit it's been many years since I've watched Grease. It used to be one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I just watched it so many times I got sick of it. Anyway, isn't that a storyline with Frenchie--Beauty School Dropout?

Claudia has a hard time adjusting, but when she does her homework, she finds out she actually understands it. --And I head desk at her moving back to 8th grade after a few books.
They have a surprise party for Jackie and still talk shit about him being the Walking Disaster.--These girls are so fucking two faced.
Now that I think about it, spilling punch and knocking things over seems to be normal behavior.--Can't tell me these girls haven't done the same shit throughout their life. Or do they always assume it's a bad luck curse if they spill something or bust their ass?

I don't understand the Kishis either. They are suppose to be strict or at least very concern about school and grades. But then do nothing to help Claudia? Claudia got in trouble in the beginning of the series for blowing of her school which, that's when she had to start doing her homework with a family member. Then what? That just stopped? My parents were far from strict but if their kid was struggling in school they'd have done everything they could to help. Whether it was helping with the homework, finding a tutor, etc. Except for the early series helping Claudia with her homework every day, they don't do anything.
