Karen's Pen Pal- part 4 and last

Hey, guys. It's time to wrap this lovely piece of literature up! I hope you enjoy and thanks for the feedback!

Chapter 16- New Friends
The teachers ask everyone how they are enjoying the experience of visiting their pen pals. To Karen's shock, Maxie is very enthusiastic and happy to be there. Because she doesn't care about competition. She's just happy to have a new friend, even if it's Karen. Another kid says he likes Hootie, confirming that the guinea pig is Hootie and not a visiting pet named Tootie. Karen awaits a reaction from Maxie, but she doesn't have one, probably because she knew Karen was lying all along and was just going along with it to amuse her.
Maxie tells her teacher that this activity is the most fun thing they have ever done. Karen thinks this should have been fun but it wasn't because Maxie "was such a horrible bragger." I've already snarked the hell out of this so I'll leave you to to your own reactions.
Karen contemplates maybe smiling at Maxie but she simply can't because Maxie has better shells than her. I am not kidding. That is actually her reason.
Karen continues to regret bragging because if she hadn't she and Maxie could have been friends and then it is time to get ready for sports day.

Chapter 17- The Sports Celebration
Karen compares her raggedy sneakers to Maxie's cool ones, showing she still hasn't learned a thing from this experience.
Ms. Colman describes the sports celebration events and my chest tightened so hard reading that. If I was in this school, I would absolutely despise this event. I hate sports and I was always horrible at them. I especially hate having to participate in a sport in front of people.
Karen beats Maxie in the 50 yard dash, unfortunately. Maxie's class wins the event but Karen doesn't care because she beat Maxie and that's all that counts. I would think Karen would maybe start being less competitive with Maxie after she had that realization that she was bragging too much, but what am I expecting, this is Karen.
Maxie wins the next event and we get this gem:
"Meanie Maxie had beaten me again."
Excuse me a minute. So she's mean for doing the run quicker, but when you did the same thing for the last event, that's ok? You're not mean? I see. Everyone is mean if they are not bending to Karen's will. I got it. I don't get why she is even taking this so seriously. It's gym class. It's not the Olympics. Karen is just like all those assholes in my school who would bully the crap out of me if they were on my "team" in gym and I didn't do well and we didn't get points. Treating winning in gym class like it's the World Series and totally tragic if you don't win.
Chapter 18- The Tie
Last event is a relay race and both classes are tied so far and now it's Karen vs. Maxie so it's up to them to determine the sports celebration winners.
Karen tells us that she really doesn't give a shit if her class wins the sports celebration, she just wants to beat Maxie. Seriously, if I were Lisa and Watson I would be getting this kid into therapy immediately. Why is she so preoccupied with "beating" this poor girl? It's seriously troublesome.
They tie and ask for a do-over (unlike their classmates who also tied and just accepted it like normal people) and this keeps going on about three more times until they crash into each other and fall.
Whatever was wrong with Karen's brain was fixed by the fall because at that exact moment she "realizes" that Maxie was never in a movie and doesn't have a rockstar father or a class pet cat.
They each apologize for lying and admit they just wanted the other one to like them. Karen is happy Maxie isn't a "meanie" after all. I guess she's not mean because she doesn't really have all these great things and doesn't ACTUALLY trump Karen.

Chapter 19- Karen's Pen Pal
Karen and Maxie eat lunch together and formally admit to all their lies and realize they both love roller skating. Karen admits to NOT BEING VERY GOOD AT IT AM I READING THIS RIGHT.
They get along for the rest of the day and it's a happy ending for all.

Chapter 20- Dear Maxie, Love Karen
Just letters back and forth from Karen and Maxie, this time truthful ones. They get along and make promises that they will always be pen pals. Yay.

Hope you enjoyed! I am thinking of snarking either one of the BSC autobiography books (probably Kristy's or Dawn's) or Karen's New Holiday next. I have to decide if I am able to deal with another Karen book so soon. She is fun to snark, though.

ls #25 karen's pen pal, karen
