Claudia and the Middle School Mystery! Part 1!

Sep 17, 2015 20:53

I needed to burn off some steam, and I didn't want to fall in the Tumblr hole, so I started my next snark. And omg, you guys, there is so much exposition! So, sorry if this is a little short, but the first three chapters are basically filler. Yeah, it's easier on me, but I feel like I'm slacking. I promise that better things will come. At least, I ( Read more... )

Or maybe it's that she has no idea how to write a true individual--They should've given that label to Claudia because Claudia is the individual out of the group. It's really not even a contest even if you narrow it down to Claudia or Dawn ( ... )

"I'm a bit worried about Ann when it concerns a lot of stuff she wrote or supported whenever a ghostwriter did the books. Normal behavior is demon behavior. Demon behavior is wonderful behavior. Abusive relationships are normal, everybody should have them ( ... )

Sometimes I wonder if the other ghostwriters had thoughts about the way the girls are written. "Ann, do you really want to keep this in? Their behavior is rather disturbing. It'd probably fit in perfectly for a fucked up Lifetime movie but somehow I don't think it fits here?"

I hope you enjoy the set! Are you planning on doing snarks for any of the episodes?

That's a good question! I'm afraid I don't know the answer to it though. But yeah, I can see her firing somebody for speaking their mind about this stuff too. There's gotta be one out there imo. We're just reading this stuff and a few are snarking it. Can you imagine the unsettling feeling if you were the writer actually writing it?

You're welcome. :) I've been enjoying this snark so I really do hope you snark some/all the episodes. :)

i can't even begin to imagine having to write those books. i'd feel like a horrible person for even taking part in it, i think, with all of the horrific messages&stuff. i'd just be grossed out by the whole thing.

i probably will! :D when i get the six episodes in the mail, i'll have seven in total, because i still have an old copy of 'baby-sitters remember' or whatever it was called, so i'll have quite a few to go through. it'll be fun. :D

You're absolutely right that Claudia is more of an individual than Dawn. Aside from her eating habits, Dawn is always following the crowd or changing herself to please others. Being a pain in the ass doesn't make you an individual, it makes you a pain in the ass.

Yeah, the more I read these books as an adult, the more I wonder about Ann. How could she not see that the way she wrote characters had the complete opposite effect on how she intended? Her ideas of cute, funny kids are Claire and Karen, the two worst kids who anyone in their right mind would dread to sit. When she tried to write a good, take charge leader, she made a mini Stalin. She tried to make us hate relatable characters. She victim blames like there's no tomorrow. I almost wish she would do a revival series so we could see if she's actually learned anything. I really do want to write her a long letter about all the things she's done wrong, but would probably just end up blocked on FB.

i wonder, if we all got together&helped draft a letter, then all signed it, even if it was just typed on the computer (lol)&sent it to her publisher, would she ever read it? i got the feeling that no.1 fan was her way of explaining to the readers why she sends form letters, but still, she can't POSSIBLY be getting as much mail as she did when the BSC was huge...

Agreed. Anytime Dawn showed her ass just meant more moments for her to be completely obnoxious. Like I've said for the food, you eat what you eat and I'll eat what I eat. Why pass judgment either way? And we definitely had that going on.

Ann's writing style is just something I can't figure out. I honestly think one should be able to pick out the disturbing factors even back then because they're so many things sticking out like a sore thumb. It's not just a case of the entire series having one or two disturbing moments. going along with your frame of mind, did time do anything to Ann? I realize the many, many mistakes and screw ups that I wish had been dropped and changed completely. Or are we dealing with a person that still doesn't see anything wrong with any of it?

honestly, i don't think she is capable of seeing the things that were/are 100% fucking WRONG with this entire series. she comes across as being a bit sociopathic, to be honest. either that, or part of the reason she can be bitchy to fans --at least, that's what i've heard-- or doesn't seem to want to talk about the series much, etc, is because she had some kind of epiphany/awakening&realized just how truly evil this shit is&is trying to distance herself from it. but i doubt that. i just see her as being a total monster, for the most part. i don't cut her any breaks. :P

I have heard the rumor that she refuses to talk about the BSC. But I don't know whether it's true or not.

i'd love to be able to have that rumor either confirmed or denied. it'd be really fucked up if she really refused to talk about these books, considering she made so much damned money off of them.
