Stacey vs the BSC! Part The End!

Hello, ladies! How is everyone? Things here are going okay though I don't know what I did to my neck because it hurts like a devil. My sleep schedule is still pretty screwed up so I was like 'Tie up your hair and snark!' I hadn't read this book before, it was way after my time, but Lordy loo, is it a daisy! A BSC book where both K. Ron and the ever ( Read more... )

You make a good point of how Stacey could have invited Char to attend the talent show as a guest. She was trying to sell it as a practice for the recital, but she could have said something along the lines of 'You'll see that performing isn't that big a deal. It can be really fun!' I get where Stacey's heart was, but she should know Char well enough to know performing just isn't her thing.

The thing with Dawn was that she wasn't acting like she was hurt. MA was but she was acting more like 'How dare you!' I'm sure it was her idea to go embarrass Stacey and MA was just bullied into going. What none of them seem to realise is what you said, they're not a good mix of people. I have that in my own family, where I don't get along with them because we share no interests. I avoid most family gatherings because they can be excruciating to be around people you share no interests with.

You're absolutely right that Claudia made the choice to come. She even said that she doesn't know how Stacey thought the BSC wouldn't find out about the party as everyone in school was talking about it. If she knew everyone was talking about it, and that the BSC were highly likely to find out, she should have stayed at home if she didn't want to be put in the middle like that. She was having doubts but went anyway. It's just another example of a BSC member blaming someone else for their mistakes.

Luckily the kids of Stoneybrook are generally good kids so Char being teased for her break down will never come up. There are bullies (Karen, the triplets, that Mel asshole) but outside of siblings, there's really no teasing going on. Which is a good thing because I don't think my heart could take Char having a break down then getting teased about it. And she definitely should have said something about not being in any more talent shows or anything else. She should have said that after the Little Miss Stoneybrook pagent.

It is really weird reading these books as an adult and seeing just how abusive the girls can get. It could have been a good series. They could have handled things like jealousy well but instead they make everything about control. Stacey is absolutely right that they want to control her life. Which is very alarming that it took this long for someone to realise it. Claudia and the New Girl was book 12 and they were already displaying controlling behaviour. And the thing that kills me is how the hurt party is always painted as being wrong. It just blows my mind that books with this bad of morals went on for so long and was as popular as it was.
