seriously.
i watched a lot of old movies&shows as a kid, but that was because of my parents. i totally love that old stuff to this day, but we watched the shows&stuff that was on at the time as well. i believe one book mentioned that charlotte's favourite show was the cosby show (the truth about stacey?) but for real, no roseanne? i thought everbody watched roseanne back in the day. lol. it was my favourite show for many years cuz that family was the closest to being like my own that i'd ever seen on tv. it was a more realistic, gritty portrayal of family life&family dynamics, so ann probably nixed that, "NOT IN MYYYYYY FANTASY WORLD!" (she really seems to live her whole life in this little bubble of fantasy. in my mind i see her dazed&staring into space daydreaming her personal chapter two in her head, inner-monologuing for all eternity&happy as a clam that way).

yeah, MA probably saw sixtenn candles "lite" on cable television. but no way in hell could any of those kids seen those horror movies. i'm a grown ass woman&i can't take those movies. think ann just looked at tv guide or something, closed her eyes&jabbed her finger randomly, opened her eyes&was like, "friday the 13th? wuzz that? THE WORLD SHALL NEVER KNOW. i'mma use that in my book!" or "that movie has the number 13 in it, its a SIGN! i'll use it in my book about 13 year olds! gigundoly dibbly fresh!" (i'll be so embarrassed if it was halloween that was referenced, lol!)

Part of my old show habits happened because of my parents as well. And another part was I loved Beavis and Butthead and they hated me watching that show so I'd always flip to a "safe" channel whenever I was watching B & B and one of them came into the room.

I'm shocked to see a TCS reference made it after all! And yeah, I hear you when it concerns family comparisons. I watched a rotation of Step by Step recently and I just couldn't form as tight of a connection with that show like I did with Roseanne. The family is too perfect and the situations are too perfect. I guess it's a vice versa case and you have some people that could relate more to the calmer family on Step by Step and enjoyed it more than Roseanne.

lmao! I could honestly see that happening since I genuinely believe they put random outfits on a dartboard and threw darts at it in order to pick out some of Claudia's outfits. :D

haha, i totally remember changing to a "safe" channel while watching something our parents wouldn't like us watching if we thought they were coming into the room. music channels were pretty much forbidden until i was like...13 or 14? not sure. unless my parents pre-approved something on it. lol.

in ann's bs bio it said she watched TCS to see what her reader's were watching, she thought it was a really wholesome show so it got referenced.

yeah, most of the families shown on tv were way too perfect, situations were way too perfect, everything always neatly wrapped up in 1/2 an hour. some of the shows were decent but i really couldn't relate to them, roseanne was much, much closer to reality. i still have respect for roseanne&sarah gilbert as well (i LOVED her as a child).

btw, aren't sarah gilbert&melissa gilbert sisters? i seem to remember hearing that waaaaaaaaay back so not 100% on it.

now i gotta search for roseanne on youtube as well. they were playing reruns for awhile last year but i kept missing them cuz they were on at really odd times. :/

&ann&the ghosties doing that for claud's outfits would make so much sense! LOL!

My parents didn't really mind the music I listened to. The majority of it absolutely wasn't their taste and whatever was left over involved playful teasing.

Yep. And don't forget Jonathan Gilbert (Willie). I think he slips under a lot of radars because I think he totally walked away from acting after LH went off the air while you still see Sara and Melissa around and about still.

You will absolutely find Roseanne on youtube. No problem with that one whatsoever.

i don't think it was the music so much, but some of the content in the music videos, which kinda makes me laugh now cuz there are music videos these days that seem waaaaaay worse than in the 90s! which reminds me of a funny (to me, at least) story. once my older sister&i were watching rv in the basement, it was just one of the channels we were "allowed" to watch, but a commercial came on just as one of my younger sisters came down. she immediately yelled up, "mo-om! ---&--- are watching MUSIC VIDEOS!!!!" &one of us yelled back, "we are not! it's a SPRITE commercial!" &then we laughed at my younger sister&probably bitched her out a little too. lol.

i don't think i ever knew the kid who played willie was another gilbert! wow! that's cool. :) i haven't seen melissa in anything in a long long time, but sara is on big bang theory with...whatshisname who played david&sometimes laurie metcalf (sp?) appears too on that show. i watch the show with my husband&any time sara is on it makes me happy. she's so awesome. :D

it's great how easy it is to find tons&tons of episodes of roseanne on youtube! i watched a good chunk of the fifth season yesterday! :D
