1408

Just saw 1408, which our local theatre got almost a month after the movie was originally released. I thought the premise of a writer trapped in an evil hotel room, ala Silent Hill 4, was promising, and it was. It's just that the execution wasn't particularly creepy. The lead up, especially the parts with Samuel L. Jackson, were rather good, but once the action picked up, it was one weird thing after another with very few moments of respite to break it up. And when I say "weird", I don't mean "creepy". There were some nice, subtle moments, but those mostly happened at the beginning. I also have to mention that the special effect where people look like they've come out of a television set... yeah, that just looks stupid.

I might be coming across harsh, but it wasn't really that bad. Nothing stood out as being particularly good, but there were few enough horrible moments, that the whole thing evens out and becomes simply mediocre, perhaps leaning slightly towards the positive end of the spectrum.
