Tie-In

Considering the poor quality of most movie-to-game adapations, I've never really felt the desire to spend money on purchasing or renting them. Still, I've always been curious about them. Not that I want to play them or anything, but I wonder how much of the actual movie they typically cover. Are they merely side stories or do they tell the whole thing? Do they give away the ending? Could you rent the game for a couple of bucks and save yourself the price of a movie ticket? I suppose I could answer my own question by reading a FAQ.
