Unfortunately for them, all those talk-show hosts (and those who hang on their words) are now stuck with a guy who they've been painting for years as the enemy within--more because it made for an arresting narrative on the airwaves over the years than because of any facts of his personality or record. If they just caved immediately into fawning praise, chances are even their most brainwashed fans would smell something questionable.
If nothing else in the Republican primaries gives us comfort, it should be that fewer people care about the talk-show hosts than we might have presumed. (We can hope that Dobson's anti-endorsement of McCain will also prove something similar about Dobson's following.)
I also loved this piece, of course I'm one of those independents that McCain is hoping to swing, with liberal enough politics to almost justify the kind of vitriol they lob his way.
