Hello LJ! Many of you are off doing other things, but here I am anyway. I’m celebrating the holidays with my parents/brother/niece late this year, so Mr. McK and I had a really nice holiday weekend at home, during which I made yummy food (including this braised cabbage which was AWESOME and super, super-easy, since the relatively long cooking time wasn’t a problem), experimented with my new stovetop espresso pot and milk frother thingy (which I am TOTALLY digging so far, though in fairness I have actually not tried to make a latte that did not contain Baileys, so that will be its own test, hee), and had a lovely Christmas dinner at our friends’ house, where we played Rock Band 3 (catwalksalone, we said "deBASer" in your honor!) and drank champagne and ate ALL THE DELICIOUS FOOD that I did not have to plan for, shop for, or prepare, which is like GOLD to me at this point in my life. YAYS. It was delightful.

Also, the same friend who invited us to dinner made me the MOST AWESOME CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER. He’s been making these really cute little dolls out of felt, and I knew he’d made a Batman one for a friend of his, and a Joker one for a mutual co-worker, and then he suddenly started randomly commenting to me on the changes in Nightwing’s costume, so I got all excited, and sure enough:

Look at his little FACE! And his floppy hair and his rosy cheeks and his FELT KEVLAR SUIT! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

And the obligatory ass shot:

I loooooooove hiiiiiim. And I took him home and introduced him to Sock Puppet Joe, OF COURSE, but I forgot to take pictures. But I will! Because I’m not sure exactly what kind of shenanigans Felt Dick Grayson and Sock Puppet Joe Dick would get up to, but I would be VERY CURIOUS to find out.

So yay! It was awesome! And now this week I will be making truffles and cookies and buying a few last presents and getting ready to leave at oh-fuck-thirty on Saturday morning (New Year’s Eve at our house is gonna be a PARTY, let me tell you).

OH. And last week Mr. McK and I went to see Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which I liked orders of magnitude better than the first two movies put together. They changed a lot about the plot, but the characters seemed recognizably themselves, which was a really nice step up from Prince Caspian, where they were all "let's have Caspian and Peter be giant dicks to each other for no reason!" and that made me sad. And TLTWATW was a really pretty movie, but it didn't grab me emotionally at all. So I thought Dawn Treader had the perfect blend of solid character stuff and very pretty scenery, and the animation was amazing--dragon!Eustace and Reepicheep looked every bit as real as the human characters--and the actors all did solid work (and Georgie Henley is growing up to be so pretty, aww), and I cried at the end, with Reepicheep sailing his little coracle off into the unknown, and I just loved loved loved it.

I also find it amusing that, while I always had a huge soft spot for Lucy/Caspian in the books, the movies have now made me ship Caspian/Susan (after Prince Caspian, because AWW, and they are both so very pretty) and now Caspian/Edmund. Because there is a LOT of Caspian/Edmund in this movie, and nicknames and fervent declarations of affection and dude. Whoa. So THAT made me giggle. Caspian/everyone FTW, I guess? And Georgie Henley really is demonstrably too young for Ben Barnes. Hee.

Anyway, if this is the last movie, they went out on a note that perfectly satisfied me, so I'm very pleased with that.

Also, I don't think I really have any Dick/Babs people on my flist, but if anyone wants to flail with me over this Detective Comics preview, I AM AVAILABLE.

And now: lunch.
