i have way more respect for people who can discourse in detail about comics backstory than i used to. there ought to be qualifications! or medals! (i though perhaps wikipedia could aid me re: elements of the marvelverse. I WAS MISTAKEN. there were a lot of emails to kanz.)

This is how I feel, too! I think... I think it will help me that I am going to try--TRY--to stay away from the fandom at large. Because--as with anything where there is long-running canon, and this is EXTREMELY long-running canon--I've already seen character hate that makes me sad and a lot of bitterness and everything and I'm having FUN right now and I want to hold on to that as long as possible. So I am hoping I can avoid QUIZZES, I guess? Hee.

OKAY! *KIDNAPS* (Actually, I have a bunch of this stuff digitally, if you're ever curious. The great thing about comics is that they're quick reads. The evil thing is that that makes it REALLY easy to go, "Just one more before bed...!" And we all know how that ends!)

i have had similar feelings from the some of the snippets of comics fandom(s) i've peeked at (except watchmen, which seems very sane for such dark canon - however, sometimes that is the way. and of course - closed canon, stand-alone, much easier to grasp!).

i could be persuaded by your offer, as soon as i have actual spare time. though i still question the sanity of delving into DC and marvel at the same time! oh well, clearly it will be necessary to become at least conversational in the subject before i am next back in seattle...

no it is not embarrassing! i regularly wish i was able to retain information pertinent to boring parts of real life the way i can recall Facts About Show/Book/Film. also, this makes you well on the way to being a bat!professional, surely?
