Neal's left-handed, but he plays right-handed. Like a baseball player who throws left but bats right, etc. :) (He says here, I think, that it was because his family was poor and left-handed guitars are a lot more expensive. Though if the prep-school rumor is true, maybe he's just developed that story to add to his rockstar image. Hee.)

Well, you probably know better than I do, but I had the impression he'd always played that way, and that the reason he got the screw in his hand instead of a different surgery was so that he could keep playing at all. But maybe you're right!
