"I never fight with Sammy. I love Sammy."

Here is the part where I tell you all about my weekend, even though it was mostly really boring!

On Saturday, I got up early (relatively speaking), put on makeup, and went down to the DMV to get an enhanced ID (to facilitate border crossings, since my passport is expired and I don't have $70 right now to renew it). Arrived at 9:30 a.m. and was given a number. They called my number at… NOON. Good times! (Though actually, I was lucky there, because if they hadn't called my number by noon, I would've been SOL, because they won't let you start an application for an enhanced ID after noon. WTF, DMV.) So I fill out the application, and they're like, "Okay, come back in an hour to complete the process." So I went to get lunch, and on the way back from that, I stopped at the Chevron across from the DMV to get gas and fill up one of my tires, which has been pretty underinflated for a while. I fill up the tire, get back in my car, start to reverse, and… POOF! My tire is the shattered wreck of a former tire. (Apparently tires don't like it when you drive around on them underinflated, and then try to inflate them. Who knew?)

So, annoying, but also lucky, because a) this did not happen while I was on the freeway or something and b) I was right next to the DMV, which by this point I had to get back to. So I called Mr. McK, and while I waited some more at the DMV, he drove out and changed my tire for me, and took the car to the tire place that was also conveniently right next to the DMV. I finally finished up at the DMV at about 2:30, and then had to wait at the tire place till 3:30. So really, it could have all been way worse-I did not even have to change my own tire! I feel weirdly guilty about this!-but it was still annoying, six hours of just sitting around. Bleh. (Of course, my sudden urgency in getting this enhanced ID has nothing at all to do with waiting for David Cook to announce Canada tour dates. Nothing at all! Lalala. DAVID PLEASE COME TO VANCOUVER AND PLEASE COME ON A DATE THAT I CAN GO AND PLEASE JUST FINISH FUCKING ANNOUNCING THIS STUFF ALREADY SO I CAN AT LEAST KNOW, OMFG YOU ARE KILLING ME. OR RATHER YOUR MANAGEMENT IS KILLING ME. YOU ARE KILLING ME IN AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT AND FRANKLY MUCH MORE PLEASURABLE WAY, SO THANKS.)

But then I went to greensilver's house and she fed me delicious food and we watched Hugh Dillon and Fraser and Vecchio and David Cook and vids. And there was hard cider. AND a jarrow sighting, and not just when he came out to see what the hell we were squealing about (spoiler: it was David Cook). So that helped CONSIDERABLY.

Also, during my looooong wait, I got most of the way through The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, which, after finding the first 100 pages kind of a slog, I am now THOROUGHLY enjoying. I still wish Chabon would trim his prose a little bit more judiciously-I like the florid! But it kind of loses its oomph if you apply it to EVERYTHING!-but I do love the themes in the book, and the meta of it, all brotherhood and friendship and heroism and art vs. commerce and romantic love and disguises and escapes and golems and family. It is delightful, despite how desperately sad it is in places. It's also got me thinking about writing, of course, and how deeply I envy the visionary capacity that Sam has, the way that worlds just open up inside his head. My skills as a writer are so much about the smaller things, and I always hope like hell that the way I tell my stories makes up for the general lack of ingenuity. But I can feel the energy from that kind of sweeping scope when I get near it, and it always makes me restless. I get tired of peeping through the keyhole, and I just want to open the door, but I don’t know how. O, for a muse of fire, indeed. But anyway, there's something to wanting to, I guess, and it's good to engage my writerly brain, especially because I can't seem to find time to actually write these days. So anyway. I am really enjoying it! And I can see how it is TAILOR-MADE for Seth Cohen, holy crap. It's practically like the entire show bible for Seth could just consist of "this is his favorite book." Awww, Seth. ♥

Anyway. Then I came in to work last night to finish a thing for a meeting today (totally my own fault, since I was totally unable to focus last week), and was here till 9:30 pm, and then my boss wasn't here today, so there was no meeting. Ah well. It was actually kind of a fun project, and accomplishing things feels good! WHO KNEW?

So that was my weekend.

If you belong to ontd_ai, don't miss this Kanye macro post. It's good times. Also this post, if you are into the Hot Pockets; OMFG THEY ARE SO GORGEOUS I KIND OF CAN'T BREATHE. *flail*

Also? BONES ON THURSDAY. BONES BONES BONES BONES BONES OMG I AM REALLY EXCITED IS IT THURSDAY YET? Except that I have to get there first, because tonight I have to drive across town for my hair appointment, and then tomorrow night we're meeting my in-laws for dinner, and then Wednesday night my in-laws are coming OVER for dinner (and staying the night with us), WOO. How did all this happen? I have a sappy end-of-the-Idol-tour picspam to compose, JEEZ.

And that's all I've got. Except that Cook is still hotdorable. Just keeping you updated. Also, he eats puppies.
