Hello internets! I am home from my trip. It was an excellent (though occasionally emo) trip, and it was lovely to see my family. We cooked and ate a lot of delicious food, and worked on the HARDEST JIGSAW PUZZLE IN THE WORLD OH MY GOD (the jigsaw puzzle thing has become something of a tradition with us, but the last two years we've been unable to finish the puzzle before rogairedubh and I had to head home--this year's was REALLY hard, we didn't even come close), took some lovely walks, and watched a lot of TV (I saw It Happened One Night for the first time ever and loved it; and I totally converted my parents to Flashpoint \o/ [I tried to keep the flailing--both about Hugh and about Toronto and FANGIRLS--to a reasonable level, and was moderately successful], watched Charlie Wilson's War and was pretty meh about it; watched Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day and ADORED it, in part because it was a wonderful, warm, good-hearted story, and in part because Lee Pace was LETHALLY HOT LIKE THE CENTER OF THE SUN in it, holy crap--he is all roguish and sincere and charming and he plays the piano and SINGS and it is entirely off-sides, I highly recommend it; and watched several episodes of Planet Earth and was fascinated by a lot of it and totally irrevocably traumatized by the frequent animal death--MEEP). So. Pretty successful, all in all. Oh, and I rang in the new year with my parents and grandmother, because I am super-cool like that. (It was fun, though, and there was an amazing dinner involved, and an equally amazing pomegranate martini. \o/)
And I came home to lovely cards from zabira, scriggle, qe2, china_shop, 50mm, stars_like_dust, and sdwolfpup. Thank you all so much! I also got an old-school movie-poster postcard, depicting GORATH ("SEE! The world doomed by an invading wild sun 6000 times bigger than Earth!"), with only the following on the back: "Phallic much?! hee!" AWESOME. If you were responsible for sending me that postcard, please let me know. ♥
But I had almost no LJ time on my vacation, so I am now behind on EVERYTHING... I just caught up on reading my flist and it was at (I kid you not) skip=NINE HUNDRED, so if I somehow missed anything vital in the sea of posts, please feel free to link me. I have a bunch of fics open in tabs, and most of the DSSS archive to get through still (I'm so sorry! I suck! /o\), and I'm looking forward to checking out people's year-end writing memes, too, but that will have to happen later in the week. It's really inconvenient that life doesn't just stop when I'm gone, y'know? Sigh.
Aside: it is snowing like a motherfucker right now. Again. I do live in Seattle, right? WTF?
Also, message to troyswann: Mr. McK and I are watching SYTYCD Canada again and it's an ENTIRELY different experience, watching all the auditions and the judges' comments and all. Not that we didn't love it before, but we are REALLY loving it now. We also wanted you to know that we were ENTIRELY wrong about the Nico/Arassay angel thing being over the top--this time around, it made us both cry. Eeeee! MAGIC OF THE DANCE. Also, I totally get the Nico thing now. Mmmmm. (Not that I would ever get in the way of your love. Just saying. Also he and Arassay would have BEAUTIFUL BABIES. Again, just saying.)
