The interview...

Aug 22, 2003 00:20

I have a friend online who works for a Walmart in a land far, far away... I have spoken with her about the interview, and she says I'm almost guarenteed a job offer... This is what happened. I arrived 10 minutes early (well, I arrived in the parkinglot 25 minutes early, but it is bad form to be that early)... My interview was schedualed for 1030... There was two people there before me... they were both taken in... two people arrived after me... they were both taken in... I was still standing there at 1040 with no explanation... finally I was taken to the back... Apparently they're interviewing a zillion people for Christmas (there was at least 25 being interviewed in the lunch room at that moment). The department head for electronics was doing my interview (I didn't know her department at that moment though)... she read through my app and I babbled about Store of Knowledge (retail store I worked at for 14 months, ended up the Assistant Manager and Night stock manager)... She asked me if I'd be interested in being the night stocker for electronics... As you can probably figure, I think to myself "Ooohhh... electronics... *drool*" ;-). So I said "Sure." Then she had to go take care of something else... So the department manager from Gardening finished up my interview and gave me the computer personality test to take... I filled it out and turned it in (there are SO many evil questions on the test... like "I have often been late to work in the past, but that's behind me now", agree or disagree on a scale of 1 to 10... If you agree, then you were late in the past, if you disagree, then it's not behind you???)... Turns out I only got 3 wrong out of 61 acording to them... So an assitant manager did another interview with me, asking about my responces to those three... And she said she agreed with me on two of them. :D. We talked about a bit more, then she sent me off to take the drug test... My friend says that Walmart pays 150$ per drug test...

Overnight stocker starts at 9pm... Full time... Bennifits (after 90 days of course), "personal time", "sick time", paid vacation... Three things I've never had before. My friend also told me that overnight stockers get an extra 1$ per hour... One of my fellow employees at my current job is also applying to Walmart, and she said they start at 6.75... so even if that's what they give me, at 7.75 it will be way worth it to drive the extra 7 miles each way with all these bennifits instead of my lovely current job which is only paying 8... and after 90 days I'll get a raise, and another one in 365 days... Weeee... I definately think I'll accept whatever they offer me... I had been worried about the pay, but it seems like it should be enough. My friend also told me there's someone who's been working at her walmart for 9.5 years... who now makes 17/hr, gets 3 weeks of paid vacation... wow... and that's just being a stocker, she's not even a department manager or anything...
