Comic
Last week's comic. This was one of those comics that came together in a mysteriously fortuitous manner.
Ordinarily, when writing a comic, I sit in a cafe and just start writing down whatever comes to mind (generally based around the germ of an idea: in this case the modern seed repository in Svalbard). After fifteen minutes or so, I take a look at what I've written and start trying to chisel a comic out of the roughly hewn paragraphs of gibberish, filling in the blanks with a bare minimum of research. This one had "Emperor of Austria" and "mourning the death of x" at the top.
I'm not sure that I knew of Emperor Franz-Joseph I and his wife Elisabeth prior to writing this comic, but when I did a bit of reading, the history fit my story to a "T."
