Fic: Winds Blowing Chill

Right. I've been writing while away, and ended up with something much longer than I expected (thank you, slow trains). This comes with a big flashing warning. It is baby fic, and nothing but baby fic. Spuffy babyfic at that. It's the story of how Annie came to exist, and there's almost no supernatural in this. It *does* have some Illyria&Buffy ( Read more... )

Ah - that works for me. I really like it, and can so see that conversation with Annelise, in her little fish tank, at the end there.

Thank you! I always feel the urge to apologise for baby fic, so it's nice when people enjoy it!

Well, it would be dull if *everyone* invented a whole new species to create their Spuffy babies... Thanks for reading!

That was great from start to finish, though my favourite part has to be this:
I seriously thought Spike’s eyeballs might pop out when he saw me at thirty seven weeks. It’s hard for short women to do this gracefully, dammit.

The first thing he said was, “Fuck me, you’re enormous.”

The second thing he said was, “Ow.” But the third was, “Sorry.”

I was resigned. “No, it’s true. I grew a lot while you were away.”

His voice was muffled by the hugging, but it came over pretty clearly. “Not what I meant.”

Hee!

Heh. I have a lot of pregnant friends right now. They are great material. Glad you enjoyed!

Oh, wonderful! And great resolution on the donor front. (D: About the Spike-Wesley issues though. Even if I adore that they're so perfectly understated. Actually, the whole piece's understatement deserves a FTW!)

What I love most is the switch into first person - very metatextual, that when it comes down to it, it's actually Buffy going "OK, guys, you were wondering, so here's how it is."

Illyria, guidance counsellor extraordinaire, may have something to say about Wesley issues. Possibly.

This may be my first proper Buffy-first-person. Weird to do it in the Rulesverse, I suppose, but it fitted this.

“Oh, and don’t ever let anyone call you Ann, okay? Over here, Ann Summers sells saucy nurses’ outfits and sex toys. I’m pretty sure your mum overlooked that, when she nicknamed you. But it’s still better than being called Pratt. Take it from me.”

Lovely! And so very true. My husband promised me he would
try to love the baby, but it would be difficult at first. (Definitely his child - never any doubt there!) When she arrived, one look of the blue eyes and he was permanently wrapped round her tiny finger.

The finger's grown, but he's still well and truly under her thumb! So Spike's conversation is totally right - and I love the fact that
he made the connection with Ann Summers!

Beautiful.

Thank you! It's such a big challenge for Spike in several ways, but he was trying, in the end, before she was born. Having a real person to talk to and love makes an enormous difference, though. I'm glad it rings true.
