I saw Up in the Air today. Rarely been surprised by a romcom before, so I thoroughly recommend it because it pulled off two genuine surprises. (I might argue with calling it a romcom, though

ZOMG, Xander/Medusa FTW! By which I mean that this is great! Poor Giles. :(
People are all cheerful and friendly and welcoming and I can’t fucking stand it.
I've been to a few places where the culture is to be fantastically welcoming and friendly; I feel so bad that my reaction is exactly the same as Spike's here.
I'd forgotten about Xander/Medusa till someone commented on the early Rulesverse fic they turned up in. I wish I could think of an excuse to write it for real.
I don't mind lovely welcoming people as long as I know it'll happen. Random kindness of strangers throws me completely, and therefore I get grumpy. (Basically, I need notice to be in a good mood). So you're not alone.
Hee! The fruit line specifically is a family in-joke, but I thought Samoa wouldn't generally be Spike's kind of place. I woldn't trust him as my tour guide though.
The primary joy of series-writing I find is going back and picking up things I've had to leave out the first time; even throwaway lines like Xander/Medusa can be worked up just a smidgen more.
Being a Slayer's guy is *hard*. They understand that, so they have a point of contact already. (And it grows, as they work together). Not too unlikely, I hope!
love that Spike knows just how to get Giles to open up about Faith. The sharing thing is hard, but it helps. The alliteration of coy Codex is wonderful and that moniker is perfect for the illusive thing!

Hoo boy. Job security, I guess.
I think these two work well together. And, like you say, they understand the Slayer thing. Sometimes destiny’s a bitch.

I think Spike wanted Giles from pride to start with (he's from Sunnydale, none of these newbies will do), but they learn to work together pretty well.
