It's not been a good couple of weeks. I should be perked up that the pandemic does in fact seem to be ebbing, but instead I've had a huge wobble about office returns and such. Been talking to my boss, who is sympathetic and helpful, despite all the newspaper headlines about civil servants being forced back at gunpoint. So I'm trying to find some equilibrium, while also trying to sort some things about support for my parents. Hey ho. Life is complex, and I'm terribly behind on the meme.
13. Would you rather have all illicit drugs be legalized, or duelling between consenting adults be legalized?
Drugs. We could have boring regs and health advice instead of pointless prosecutions and victimisation of all manner of excluded people.
14. What movie would be greatly improved if made into a musical?
I think if you know anything about me at all you'll know I don't want extra music in things. Though I did go to the theatre on Friday night (nearly binned out but it was a good mood breaker), to see
this mini-musical which was excellent. Nasty people, explored interestingly.
15. What social stigma does society need to get over?
Well, drugs for starters. Lots, I think, but my current bee is about calling working from the office "returning to work" as if working at home is illegitimate. Self-interested bee, I admit.
16. What's the most creative use of emojis you've ever seen?
Pass. I'm a bit old to care...
17. Where do you get most of your news?
The Guardian, and also the Times but that's a once a day read rather than a persistent live blog. I pick stuff up on social media too of course, but I try to wait for stuff to be sourced before committing.
18. In 40 years, what will people be nostalgic for?
Devices. This will be the Phone Era, and the idea of us being glued to these thingsin pockets, as opposed to being implanted, will seem very odd.
19. Do you like reality/competition TV shows? Why or why not? If so, which ones?
I was about to say no snobbishly and then remembered I love Strictly, and most of the Masterchefs and Great British Menu, Sewing Bee... basically, if they have to get genuinely good at something that I admire, I like it. I tend to prefer non-celeb things, and I can't bear those structured reality TOWIE jobs. But yes, I definitely do.
20. How fast do you read?
Depends how interested I am. I've just read 175pp of a detective novel in 90 minutes because it's easy and gripping, but its predecessor was about half that speed overall as it was a bit sticky. I skim read factual stuff as a rule, especially for work.
21. Do you like classical music? If yes, name your favourite composer(s).
I'm not musical, but I do increasingly like having Radio 3 on in the background. Partly as I can tune it out, to be honest. I think Bach's twiddly mathematicals suit me quite well.
22. How often do you check your phone?
Hourly, at least. I have notifications turned off but then that makes me wonder what's coming in.
23. What is your favourite thing to eat or drink in winter?
I bought extra glogg concentrate in the sales as I do love that rich spice mix. But I also love a bit of watercress and blood orange when I'm bored with the spice and meat notes of winter.
24. If you could switch two movie/book/TV characters, what switch would lead to the most inappropriate movie/book/TV show?
25. How often do you stay up past 3:00 a.m.?
26. If you opened a business, what kind of business would it be?
27. Who was your worst teacher/professor? Why?
28. Who was your best teacher/professor? Why?
29. If you are an only child, do you wish you had siblings? If you have siblings, do you wish you were an only child?
30. Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out? If you don't use top sheets, if you stay somewhere that does, do you prefer your sheets tucked in or out?
31. Toilet paper: over or under?
