It's June, it's time for some memeage
1 If you had to leave on a road trip tomorrow with little notice or planning, where would you go?
I mean, this isn't going to be ideal right now. But I do have an answer. I'd go to Sweden. Partly because I've got a load of family there who can lend me toothpaste if I leave it behind in the rush (and aren't over 70, unlike most of my UK family), and partly because unlike everywhere else fairly close, they aren't in such complete/recent lockdown that I'd feel bad trying to find a hotel. Besides, I've been saying I mean to go back, and I really want to travel around in summer. I might not be very welcome at the moment, but I've got very good at social distancing, I promise.
2 What is the strangest food you have ever tried and really liked?
I'm not sure what strange food is tbh - suspicious offal (I'm really not a fan)? Foreign food (but I love lots of that, and it's not funny where it's local)? Or fancy restaurant food? I'm going with that. I don't eat in fancy places often, and I usually don't go to the super Michelin sort. But in my tour days I did go to a couple. The kind of place that serves cold pea soup in a gelatine sphere (it was fine). Or chocolate mousse with prawns in. I had that (just an amuse bouche), and it was... quite good. Not delectable, not gimme your leftovers (there were a lot of leftovers at my table), but okay.
Mind you, I do have a foreign food one too. Year before last after a week in Italy I came home via Basel, where the art museum served me pasta with savoury mince (at least they didn't call it ragu, I'd just been in Bologna and would have screamed), and a cup of apple sauce you were supposed to eat at the same time. That was the strangest food I've ever eaten that was exactly what it said, where I knew what all the components were, and yet the configuration wasn't what I expected. I don't know why apple with pork is fine in the UK and apple with mince is weird. They went fine. But I was very confused by this. Good, though.
