This week's Friday Five
I have to be honest, these questions are for people with a vairy different lifetyle to me. I have a flat which is reasonably full with the two of us in, and uncomfortable with three. And although I believe people in London do still entertain in the way these questions envisage, mostly what happens is we all meet in Zone 1 and then go home to our far flung suburbs.
1. Do you like it when people drop in to say hi without calling first?
No! Jeez, what is the point in living in a huge metropolis if you can't have privacy and be stand-offish about visitors? (Seriously, I hate it.)
2. When you go to dinner at someone’s house, what do you bring as a hostess gift?
Wine, usually. Or occasionally pudding, if that's helpful. But these are super rare occasions.
3. Do you send thank you notes after a nice dinner or even a gift?
I text, but that's mostly the got-home-safely, nice-to-see you check in, and it's usually mutual as we're not usually coming from someone's home.
4. Do you like entertaining or do you prefer just hanging out?
I actually like entertaining, I like to cook for people, and I'm a bit sad it's not an option most of the time. But I do it so little that I'm really antsy about people in my space now, even when they're not Q1 unannounced!
5. When you have company, what do you do to entertain them or is that all on them?
Literally the only time this happens in a way that isn't just hanging out is Christmas. And I don't usually do much because we very often haven't seen each other all year as a family, so there's loads of catch up. Also, my aunt always brings a quiz so we're covered if we run out of talking.
